Meet Holly Negreiros And Dante Aguilar

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Holly Negreiros And Dante Aguilar a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Holly Negreiros and Dante Aguilar, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

Sometimes the hardest thing you can do when running a creativity-based business, is keeping your creativity alive; so how do I do it? I go outside. I read. I draw, write, and paint. I create. I can create my own world by appreciating everything that’s already in it. By listening to the birds sing, hearing the trees sway, and being influenced by other creative minds as I turn a page, I can use all these things around me and create something else of my own; art. The main focus of my small business recently has been florals, and to really appreciate the beauty of a flower, you must first enjoy the beauty written around it. Questions like, “why is this flower/plant native to this area?” can help you figure out how to style each bouquet and give it a natural feel, or vibe. When you have these questions, you can quickly find the answers, and then from their decide, “okay, this flower is tropical. I will create a tropical themed bouquet,” and then you can add other plants and flowers alike to help bring it to life.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

In the beginning of our journey, we had no idea what we were doing, where this was going, and how to keep it up. Well, blindly jumping into florals two weeks before Valentine’s Day was a complete handful! We stayed up all night, every night, watching “how-to” videos and completing orders in time for pick-up. Since then, we have taken further steps into developing our craft; we have taken baking, pastry, and breads schooling along with online floristry classes. We have been gifted shoutouts and many amazing opportunities, such as this one, to tell our story, and share our name! We are currently an online-only business, but with the help of an amazing community we have grown so much, and are focusing now on more outreach. The goal right now is to get a more established website and platform, and hopefully, someday down the road, open our first shop!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The most impactful thing that helped us quickly develop our craft was the desire to learn! We were fully aware that we were unsure of so many things, and knew that it could be awhile till we felt confident. So, what did we do to speed up the process? We practiced, took classes, and invested time into ourselves to perfect our craft! Too many times people jump into something head-first, and are too stubborn to acknowledge the fact they could be doing something wrong; they sink, slowly, but we swam. We did not want to look like “beginners” because we were too prideful to learn, so we invested our money and time into ourselves. Your patience might be tested in the beginning, but it is so worth it in the end.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

We are always looking to collaborate with other florists, bakers, caterers, and more that need to conquer big projects! Right now we are currently in the process of (possibly) collaborating with Party One Rentals. We love collaborating on giveaways, and are always more than happy to add something in the mix! My biggest goal for this year is to collaborate with the lovely wedding planners out there, and get on their go-to list! Where do you get your work ethic from?

We’ve all heard the phrase “work hard, play hard,” but where does our work ethic
