Meet Hope

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hope. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Hope, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

By doing the work. I feel like this applies to anything anyone could possibly be doing.

I’m confident in my song writing because I’ve written hundreds of songs over the years. The majority of them never made the cut so you could say the majority of them weren’t great songs. But it makes the ones that are good stand out even more to me as the writer.

I’m confident on stage because I’ve played so many shows in my life. Too many to count. And honestly, you don’t become great on stage by only playing to great rooms. I’ve played more weird shows than the effortless ones with amazing crowds. But all of them were fun and I regret maybe only one.

You have to show up and do the work. All of it. Not just your favorite parts.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Hi I’m Hope and my project is called Boy Deluxe. I make music with my favorite person in the whole world (True).

I’m excited about the body of work we’ve been creating and the style of music we’re leaning into.
It’s been an evolution over the years, but I feel like we’re really catching our stride and making something that not only we connect to, but that others do as well.

We just released our EP titled Sanctuary and we’re so excited about it. It’s rare to still like the songs you’re putting out because I feel like once the world is hearing it, you’ve already been working on it forever. But we’re both still really into these songs.

Currently working on the mixes for the next couple tracks that are going to come out this fall. You can catch an early sneak peek of them at our shows we’re playing around LA. Next one is October 5th at Non Plus Ultra for the Dum Dum records 3rd anniversary party. Come say hi!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think whats been the most impactful in my journey has been the people around me. They’ve inspired me to write, create, to not do something, to definitely do something… Surround yourself with people who you admire and whose qualities you also want to embody. Be careful with your energy – what you share it with is what you become.

I think one of my most impactful qualities is that I’m courageous. It’s annoying really, because I’m always doing things that scare the shit out of me.

And lastly, humility. I think it’s so important. We can’t grow unless we make mistakes. In fact, mistakes are good. So be open to the feedback you get. Not everybody is going to be right, but there’s always a lesson to be learned.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Just start without the expectation of completing whatever it is in that moment.

For example: If I need to write lyrics for an entire song and all of True’s parts are done… okay so start by tracking a bunch of gibberish takes today and then piece it together into something that I like later on. Then see where that takes me. Before I know it, I’ve written an entire song and I don’t hate it.
