We were lucky to catch up with Hoza Rodriguez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hoza, thank you so much for making time for us today. We can’t wait to dive into your story and the lessons you’ve learned along the way, but maybe we can start with something foundational to your success. How have you gone about developing your ability to communicate effectively?
I’m very open to hearing people’s ideas & thoughts. We all have information from past experiences. With all that experience there’s knowledge and I wanna know it all so I can maybe use that to help me in my journey. Also you’re going to get peoples opinions no matter what it’s just something people do. We give unsolicited advice. I’ve learned to be more open to it and hear people out. I wanna be heard as well so I wanna give people what I want in return. After all it’s all just opinions we take what we want.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Right now I’m in the middle of planning a big revamp for my brand Hologramcity. I’ve been around for so long and I believe in reinventing yourself helps showcase yourself to new customers. It’s important to keep things moving in this very fast pace fashion world.
I’m also working with my best friend Richie in growing our company PLANETA. We have a shop in Dtla It’s reworked vintage/ up cycle. We’re pushing designs and creating magical pieces to share with the world. We’ve been on a good path and we will keep pushing to make sure everyone knows planeta.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think being organized is very important to having your own business. You need to keep track of inventory, finances, supplies & so much more. I really believe in organized really helps you grow.
Being punctual!! Very important and a key in success. Be on time!!! 8pm means 8pm.
Something I developed over one was communication. Open yourself up to advice and critiques. Ask for help & ask questions. Don’t be scared or embarrassed you’ll
Learn a lot of us have those same questions and concerns.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Balancing your own real life and being your own boss is something I’ve been working on and doing better at. I’m being less hard on myself about my work load. There’s only so many hours in a day. I’ve been kinder to myself about not finishing everything and going home. You have to recharge and regroup it’s very important. If your life outside work isn’t well then work will also be unwell. It’s all about balance.
