We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hugo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Hugo with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Work ethic is beyond important for me.
Migrating to the U.S. at a young age, I was raised with parents who gave everything up for me and my sister in order for us to have a future.
The way in which my parents each had several jobs at once in order to survive in a new country, gave me a first hand experience of what true work ethic was.
Watching their struggles at first and then accomplishing their goals, was a true learning experience of “you get what you work for.”
With that, I gained a work ethic in which I have paid my dues and love to share my stories of “back in the day.” And I share those stories because these days, many don’t have the same work ethics of the past.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
For the past seven years, I have been an executive for KSA Entertainment, in which I oversee several syndicated TV shows.
Truth be told, and it probably happens to many of us in the entertainment industry, we find it somewhat challenging to explain exactly what a Producer does.
I will tell you this, a Producer makes it all come together in the sense of delivering a product for the viewer.
I knew as a kid I wanted to work in television, though had no idea back then what television entailed.
From talks shows, to news, and celebrity entertainment, slowly but surely I grew in the industry.
30 plus years, and counting, I’m still as passionate as day 1. Yes, I just dated myself, and I believe the best is yet to come!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Some things I have learned throughout the years…
-Truly trust and believe in you. We all have that power because we are all different.
-Creativity is all subjective. What works for you, may not work for someone else, and vice-versa.
-Pay your dues! Your time will come and you’ll appreciate it more if you worked your way up.
-Stay true to yourself and forever be kind. How others perceive you goes a long way.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents not only gave me the freedom of life by leaving a socialist/communist country, they gave me the freedom too chose what I wanted to become.
As a parent, I’m sure there were times they had reservations, but they always encouraged me to live life to the fullest both on personal and professional aspects. I’m forever grateful to them!
