Meet Ian Dawson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ian Dawson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Ian, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I found my purpose after I decided to leave my ex to restart my life because I was not happy in that environment or relationship. I was broken and defeated but I overcame alcoholism when I got sober in 2012. I said if I overcame that I could overcome this mental abuse. So, I finally said enough is enough and left everything. My ex, our house, my job, and the town I lived in to find my passion. So, I found myself in my mother’s basement thinking ok what I should do now with my life. So, I thought about it hard. I always felt I was more than what I was. That I had a purpose in life, so I decided to follow my true passion which was art and creating beautiful thing to make the world more beautiful.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I blow glass, forge, weld, and bend metal to combine the elements into art. I feel that is unique and find beauty in combining elements. I love that it is unique, and I have a great satisfaction in making it. I started taking some workshops in making glass until I started learning to blow glass in late 2022. I took a semester at BGSU to study the basics before I started venturing out into renting studio space in various locations. I practiced a lot to develop designs and patterns until I perfected them. I focus on making things as beautiful as possible. I have a great satisfaction on people appreciating my art. I like to donate art to charity’s I believe in. I

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I feel that my personality, determination, and my passion for art. I would tell people always follow your love and passion in life and never give up on what you love. just keep practicing and never give uo untill you are happy with your work and then make it even better next time,

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

In the past 12 months my biggest area of growth was myself and believing in my visions and believing in myself. I started doing my own artwork and my own visions with my work and I enjoy people enjoying my work. when I started believing in myself a lot of my fear of not succeeding went away. I went to Murano Italy for two months to learn and work with glass from April 2025 till June 2025 and plan to return there in Sept 2025 and in 2026. So I am excited as well for the next year as well. I love constantly evolving.
