We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ianya Vinson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ianya, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I was able to find my purpose when I failed a few classes my freshman year of college and had to figure out my next steps. I always loved children but was more focused on what could make me more money. I decided to go back to what I knew I was good at and actually enjoyed and that’s when I realized working with children was what I was destined to be doing.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m Ianya (or Nya), a domestic engineer and curriculum specialist. I am in the process of developing my own curriculum that can be used at home or in preschools. I create learning tools that can be used at home or on the go. My most popular tool would be the Busy Binders. They tackle the basic learning needs of toddlers to 2nd grade. This includes the alphabet, colors, numbers, shapes, etc. They can even include things like shoe lacing practice and affirmations as well. I recently released my first coloring book, The Alphabet Garden.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say that the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were passion, dedication, and patience. A piece of advice for anyone who is early in their journey of becoming a teacher at any level would be to make sure it’s something you truly want to do.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client would be someone with a child or children in 2nd grade or younger looking to help their child(ren) in academics but don’t know where to begin or don’t want to put more work on their teachers.
