We recently connected with Idriss Alison-Konteh and have shared our conversation below.
Idriss, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I draw my resilience from my vision for myself and the future I’m determined to create. My purpose is to help liberate people around the world but I know that begins with liberating myself. Every setback I’ve faced has been a disguised blessing, shaping me into someone stronger, wiser, and more determined. I refuse to give up, because my drive to inspire and uplift others through the art of entertainment fuels me every single day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an actor, comedian, director, and producer who started with nothing but a stutter, a notebook, and a head of hair that didn’t stick around for the long run. I never thought I’d be a comedian. For most of my early life, I avoided speaking in front of people altogether. I was shy, insecure about my speech impediment, and convinced that staying quiet was safer.
Growing up in the Bronx, you either had jokes, could play ball, or could rap. I had jokes, but too often I kept them to myself. That changed when my sister signed me up for a talent show without telling me. Terrified, I stepped on stage and made fun of my own speech struggles. For the first time, people laughed with me instead of at me. That moment changed everything. I realized you don’t have to “fix” yourself to belong; you just have to own who you are.
It took years to fully embrace my insecurities, from my stutter to my knocked knees and a hairline that’s been on a permanent vacation since I turned 30. Along the way, I learned that my desire for success had to be stronger than my fear of failure.
Today, one of my proudest projects is DaTz Hilarious, my new sketch comedy show featuring a talented, diverse cast of actors, comedians, and crew creating universal, timeless sketches that connect with people from all walks of life. I have also produced two viral comedy series, Last Take Show and It Is What It Ain’t. These projects are bold, authentic, and ours.
Being bold, to me, is not about being fearless. It is about walking on stage with all my imperfections and saying, “This is me, and I’m still going to give you everything I’ve got.” My journey has taught me that insecurities do not have to hold you back; sometimes, they are exactly what make you stand out.
My mission is simple: to make people laugh, think, and feel seen. Whether it is in a packed comedy club, at a corporate event, or through a video on your feed, I want you to walk away smiling and remembering that your voice matters exactly as it is.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three things shaped my journey in the deepest way:
1. Unrelenting Curiosity: The hunger to understand everything around me people, ideas, and the world became the engine that kept me moving forward. Curiosity isn’t just about knowing more, it’s about seeing the unseen and asking questions others won’t.
2. Resilience and Adaptability in the Face of Chaos: Life doesn’t hand out smooth roads. What carried me through was the ability to stay grounded, keep going when everything seemed uncertain, and turn setbacks into launchpads. Resilience isn’t about avoiding failure, it’s about embracing it as part of the process. Adaptability means being flexible enough to change course when needed without losing sight of the bigger picture.
3. A Bold Vision and Ruthless Goal-Setting: Having a big, compelling vision gave me a purpose. But vision alone isn’t enough. You need clear, actionable goals that break that vision into steps you can actually conquer. This combo of dreaming big and acting deliberately turned abstract hopes into real achievements.
For those starting out let your curiosity be a compass. Don’t settle for surface answers. Dig deeper, explore widely, and stay hungry for knowledge that challenges what you think you know.
Cultivate resilience and adaptability like muscles. When things break down, don’t shy away. Lean into discomfort, learn fast, adjust your course, and keep moving with grit and grace.
Dream without limits. Then get laser-focused on the goals that will get you there. Break your vision into daily actions and track your progress relentlessly. Big dreams demand big discipline.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m looking to connect with actors, comedians, editors, producers, investors, videographers, and creatives who are hungry, passionate, and willing to think outside the box. If you’re someone who loves pushing boundaries, experimenting with new ideas, and bringing fresh energy to projects, then you’re exactly who I want to collaborate with.
Whether you specialize in performance, storytelling, editing, production, funding, or visual storytelling, what matters most is your drive and openness to innovation. I believe the best work comes from partnerships where everyone brings their unique voice and vision to the table.
