Meet Ikyo Bailey

We were lucky to catch up with Ikyo Bailey recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ikyo, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Photography in a lot of ways found me. So many different parts of my life pushed me in this direction. Parts that i would ignore because in my mind I was already on a good path to success. Then covid came and shook everything up, giving me the time and money to lean into this new world.
Life took over after that and lured me towards all of the accomplishments and opportunities.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Currently i’m in a transitioning phase of my business. I recognize that photography is a seed that has been planted, growing both a rich network of talented individuals at its root and opportunities in abundance.
The current goal is to share these opportunities and network, along with develope a deep rooted network for other artist, pulling different fields of production work together for collaborations with each other, and moving the standard forward along what is great art work

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

At the very very top of this list I would say is an understanding of self. Knowing how you learn and how you operate most efficiently is key. We can’t try to be like everyone else. What works for one may not work for another. Copying a work flow may be a good way to start, but make the necessary changes and adapt into your own style

Number 2 would be invest. Not just money but time and energy. Figure out what can be done in substitute for another. If money is lacking, time and energy will most often cover it, if time is lacking money and effort will speed things along, and if effort is lacking money and time will ensure movement.

Lastly is network! Meet everyone, tell everyone what you do, find a way to fit your craft into every conversation naturally. Most clients and opportunities will come from the network you create.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

The Alchemist is truly a life changing book. A simple story of a boy on a journey for treasure based on a dream he had.
For me it was a reminder of what a journey actually looks like. Its never linear. There will be times when you have to stay in one place for years to gain the knowledge you need to move forward. There will be people along the way that say you need to do things their way, but you must have a strong sense of self to determine if their way is truly the best way.
As far as wisdom goes that book is filled cover to cover. But one thing that has always stuck with me is that no matter how close santiago was to giving up, his decision to move forward opened the way towards his treasure.
