Meet Ilaria Serantoni

We recently connected with Ilaria Serantoni and have shared our conversation below.

Ilaria, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

Feeding my brain with visual – this works for me. Movie, tv show but also lot of books and museum.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

The cinematography process is extremely satisfying, crafting and mastering lights from an idea and create a common vision in which the director can see his work.
I’m always proud when a director says that “I paint with lights.” It’s a common sentence but also nice.

For one of my latest SAG-AFTRA short movie “EDELWEISS” I won the prestigious best cinematography and the Chicago international women film fest and got into Rome Prima Film Fest.
It was a great satisfaction

I also got into the official selection of the Brooklyn international Film Festival with Garden of Aiden, in which I was cinematographer. Another great satisfaction being selected for such a big festival

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I would say
History of classical art
Curiosity
Painting
And being a nerd helps for sure. I’ve always loved video game and technology which comes handy when you have to study a camera or overcome problem during a shooting

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Absolutely would say cinematography .
Working on set constantly means always practicing lights and cameras and no matter how experience you can be, there will be always something else to learn or that can inspire you to make something different !
