We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Imajen Films. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Imajen Films below.
Imajen Films, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
There was a lot of imposter syndrome tied to Imajen Films when we first started out. We asked a lot of questions like: “Can we really do this?” We questioned in general whether we were truly capable of accomplishing such an ambitious task as to build a large scale indie film studio. The fear of failure and the comparison with established players in the entertainment industry definitely played a role in it too. But it became apparent through the relationships and divine opportunities that we found ourselves with that Imajen was meant to be. The idea that Imajen was part of a bigger purpose really helped us to persist even when we found ourselves feeling unprepared or questioning whether we were really qualified to take space in the entertainment world. We really started to understand that Imajen was not a coincidence; it was a calling.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Headquartered in historic downtown, Atlanta, Georgia, Imajen Films was established by Jenna Reimonenq in 2020. The Imajen team opened its doors for limited production and creative space operations in 2023 and aims to strengthen its reach with more studio locations across the Atlanta Metro area.
The Imajen brand is created on the vision of out of the box, diverse, and honest storytelling that inspires the childlike imagination in everyone. Our primary focus are stories told through the eyes and cultural nuance of persons of color, and are largely inspired by the grey areas of human existence, world building and unusual narratives.
We’re a small team, but we’re a family. Jenna’s vision and direction is collaborative and she embraces the creative perspectives of her team members. She trusts her team to bring their own form of value to the vision of the film narratives being produced, which she believes contributes to the goal of giving audiences something to think about rather than just something to watch.
Imajen Film’s most recent production is called Imajen Moments. It’s an interview series of artists talking about their experiences, their thought process and what their art means to them. It is a limited series which can be viewed on our Instagram page (@ImajenFilms) or on our YouTube channel.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The qualities and skills that have really been beneficial to Imajen are patience, perspective, and purpose. Having the patience to develop something of quality is sometimes a challenge but always worth the investment of time which is a really important quality when we’re pitching or considering our business decisions. Likewise, having an open perspective on things keeps us malleable to change, challenges and any new information that is thrown at us on a consistent bases.
Purpose has really kept us strong in terms of when things don’t always play the way we want them to. We recently had to make a business decision on not working with a “name” producer because our goals just didn’t align. Without purpose we might have been locked into something that really wasn’t best for our brand.
Our advice for people who are on their own journey with these qualities is to define why they are important to you or your brand. We all need a “why” so that when these skills or qualities are challenged, we have an anchor.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
One of Imajen’s goals is to collaborate with other storytellers. Soon, we’ll be opening up our acquisitions department in which Imajen will facilitate the buying and selling of scripts. With the strike going on, we are on hold for a bit but we’re really excited for what it will mean for the creative world of Atlanta. When it’s available, anyone will be able to submit their project directly through the website which will list instructions on what we’re looking for and next steps. So, keep checking ImajenFilms.com for updates.
