Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Immanuel Julien. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Immanuel, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
As someone who’s constantly working to get my thoughts and voice heard through every track I create, I know that writer’s block is always going to find me. When it hits, I take a step back, let life flow, and give myself the space to feel whatever comes up. Eventually, real moments and ideas start to surface, and that’s what I end up putting into my music. Writer’s block isn’t fun—it can make me feel stuck, like I’m coming up empty. But the more I face it, the more I learn to let it ride without letting it drown me. Overcoming it, even little by little, is all part of the process.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
About Me and My Story
I’m an emerging artist and songwriter from Kennesaw, GA, navigating my own path in the music world. What drives me is the connection I’m able to make with others who may be walking a similar journey. My music speaks to anyone dealing with struggles that I know well—overthinking, self-doubt, feeling like you’re a step behind, and the journey to truly knowing oneself. These themes are deeply personal to me, but I approach them with my own style, crafting each track to be as genuine and relatable as possible.
What’s Exciting About My Work
What I find most exciting about my music is its potential to resonate with others on a personal level. In each song, there’s a blend of reflection and real emotion. I believe that sharing these experiences—especially the ones that aren’t easy to talk about—can create a sense of solidarity. There’s beauty in knowing you’re not alone in the things you struggle with, and if my music can bring even a bit of comfort or understanding to someone else, that’s a win.
Looking Ahead
As I grow both as an artist and an individual, I’m committed to evolving my sound and message. Every release represents where I am at that moment in life. With each project, I put my all into creating something that not only captures my journey but also speaks to the listeners. There’s more music on the way, and as I keep building, my goal is to push myself creatively and deliver a body of work that’s meaningful and impactful. My promise is to bring my best every time—no matter where this road takes me.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey so far, I’d say three qualities that have been most impactful are patience, self-awareness, and a commitment to consistency. These aren’t just skills—they’re mindsets that have shaped how I approach my music and my growth as an artist.
1. Patience
The creative process can be overwhelming, especially when you’re still finding your style and voice. My advice to anyone early in their journey is to take a step back when things feel like too much. It’s okay to pause and gather yourself. Remember, at the end of the day, whatever you create will always be your work. Taking your time to ensure each project is something you’re proud of is far more valuable than rushing it. Great work doesn’t happen overnight, so be patient with yourself and your journey.
2. Self-Awareness
Understand that things won’t always go as planned, and that’s completely okay. This life, and this creative path, isn’t meant to be perfect. There will be missteps, and you’ll learn from them. When you can see the bigger picture and recognize what’s truly important to you, you can make each project your own version of “perfect.” Strive for what resonates with you, not what fits others’ definitions of success.
3. Consistency
Consistency is everything. When you’re just starting out, it’s easy to get caught up in numbers or streams. But the truth is, those things come with time and dedication. My advice is to focus on the process, not the stats. The more you show up for yourself and your craft, the more you’ll grow—and that growth will eventually translate into results. Consistency, patience, and understanding who you are and what you want are the keys to longevity.
If you keep these qualities at the forefront and trust your own pace, you’ll find fulfillment in every step of your journey.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
In the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been learning to truly trust and bet on myself. I’ve realized that being human means making mistakes, and that’s okay—it’s part of the process. When you take the time to accept that and trust yourself, whether it’s in music, art, building a brand, or any pursuit, it becomes a lot easier to keep moving forward. No matter who’s in your corner, at the end of the day, there’s only one person who will always be on your side, and that person is you.
It’s important not to be too hard on yourself, even though I still struggle with this from time to time. But I keep reminding myself to have faith in my abilities and to believe in my growth as an artist. That inner trust is what keeps me grounded and allows me to keep pushing forward.
