Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Imogen Pickton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Imogen , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Honestly, it’s been a gradual journey! I’ve never been a really confident person. When I first joined LinkedIn, I was a shy student who found it so hard to put myself out there. But building my personal brand and becoming self employed really pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone.
As I started sharing my story and connecting with others, things slowly started to shift. Opportunities began to open up, whether it was working with amazing clients or speaking at events (something I never thought I’d do!) Each little “yes” gave me more confidence, even though there were definitely still moments of self doubt along the way.
Running a business has taught me resilience and helped me uncover strengths I didn’t even know I had. I honestly wouldn’t be the person I am today without the ups and downs of this career journey. Personal branding gave me the platform and the push I needed to grow, not just professionally but as a person too.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Imogen Grace Socials, we specialise in social media management and personal branding packages designed to help individuals and businesses build authority and foster a community around their brand. I want to empower my clients to build brands they can be proud of.
What sets me apart is my commitment to changing the narrative around platforms like LinkedIn. So many people perceive LinkedIn as a formal and boring space, which can put people off from fully engaging. I would love to change this perception and open peoples eyes to the power that this platform can have for their business and career.
I’m really proud of the personal brand I’ve built, which has allowed me to launch services and receive recognition through awards. This journey has given me with firsthand experience and insights that I now use to guide my clients. By using my own experiences, I can offer practical advice and strategies that are both effective and relatable.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say there are three key things that have made the biggest impact on my journey:
1. Being an introvert:
This might surprise people, but being introverted has actually been one of my biggest strengths. In a world that often celebrates being loud and visible, I’ve found so much value in being a good listener. It helps me truly understand my audience and connect with clients on a deeper level. People feel seen when they’re around someone who really listens and that’s powerful.
2. Organisation:
Running a business means juggling about a million things including projects, clients, content, deadlines and admin. Being naturally organised helps me to stay on top of everything without burning out. I’ve also built systems and workflows that support growth, so I’m not constantly in “panic mode” trying to keep up.
3. Creativity:
I’ve always loved anything creative and I knew from early on that I wanted that to be a big part of my career. With personal branding, creativity is a must. It helps you stand out in a way that feels true to you and honestly, that’s really important when it comes to building a memorable brand.
My advice for anyone starting out would be to lean into what makes you different. Those little quirks or things you once saw as weaknesses? Own them. Build a brand that reflects you, not just what you think you should be doing.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When everything feels like it’s happening all at once, I’ve learned that stepping away is so important. Even something simple like going for a walk or heading away from my screen for an hour can make a world of difference.
One of the best things I’ve done is surround myself with friends in the industry. Being able to talk to people who get it, who understand the chaos and the pressure makes it all feel a little less heavy.
My top tips?
1. Don’t wait until you’re totally burnt out to take a break. Build in regular pauses and time for yourself so that you can give your best to your business.
2. Keep a strong support system around you. People who remind you of your ‘why’ and lift you up in lower moments.
3. Most importantly, remember that feeling overwhelmed isn’t a sign of failure. It’s just a sign that something needs tweaking.
