We recently connected with In Solid Air and have shared our conversation below.
In Solid Air, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
We’ve been very good friends for years and play together frequently. We all share a love of music and desire to share that with people. Because of our long history, we have lots of inside jokes and enjoy goofing around before practices. This positive energy opens up the environment to new ideas. We often come up with a riff or song idea, and will expand on these via long jams. From the jams, unexpected ideas will often arise.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
We play a mix of hard rock and heavy psychedelic music. We’ve shared a common passion for music for years and one of the most exciting things is the energy created by the whole experience as well as the opportunities that come along with it. We are currently in the process of releasing our very first single on all streaming services, an original song called “Call of the Cactus”, and we are booking shows to promote it in the fall and winter.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1). Openness to collaboration. We work together to write all of our music, and that requires some compromise. We each bring certain skills and values to the table, and we work together to figure out how they fit together to form the art we make. Sometimes it can be difficult to set aside your personal preferences for the greater good, but communicating your ideas and feelings helps make things go smoothly.
2) Trust your own judgment. Be genuine to yourself and others. With this comes positive confidence, which makes for an easy time getting yourself out there and making connections with people who share similar values or vision as you! Making connections and networking are critical in the music industry.
3) Be persistent. Talent and skill are great, but won’t help you without determination. Always remain aware of potential opportunities and take the time to build yourself up. It may take some time, but that’s exactly why persistence is key.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We are always looking for local rock bands to do shows with! Any bands that play rock music and want to do shows around the Twin Cities can contact us by email at [email protected], Instagram at @in_solid_air_band, or Facebook at In Solid Air!
