We were lucky to catch up with Indigo Dickens recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Indigo, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from my faith in God and my unwavering belief in my purpose on this earth. Being an entrepreneur is no easy feat—it’s a journey marked by constant highs and lows. There are dry seasons, where it feels like nothing is moving, and there are abundant seasons, where everything seems to align. But what remains essential through it all is a strong, steady spirit. Resilience, for me, means showing up even when it’s hard, even when I’m exhausted, and even when the results aren’t immediate.
It takes inner motivation to wake up each day and push toward your goals, especially when you’re building something meaningful. Yes, it’s incredibly fulfilling to work in alignment with your passion, but that doesn’t mean you’re immune to burnout. The reality is, no one else can fuel your fire—you have to do that yourself.
My family and loved ones have been a powerful source of inspiration throughout my journey. My grandfather, in particular, embodies the true spirit of entrepreneurship—he knows what it takes to follow through, stay committed, and build something lasting. Watching him build Mouton Insurance Brokerage from the ground up alongside my grandmother has had a lasting impact on how I approach my own work. My grandmother’s phenomenal work ethic—her dedication, resilience, and drive—showed me what it truly means to commit fully, lead with strength, and persevere through challenges.
After their retirement, my mom took the reins of the family business, and I’ve seen her get up every single day, making quiet sacrifices. She has always done this to keep us afloat and provide us with stability and opportunity. Her consistency and grace continue to motivate me. And my father, a reverend, has introduced me to the meaning of unshakable faith in God, which grounds me daily.
Together, their faith, work ethic, sacrifices, and belief in me have fueled my resilience and inspired me to keep evolving both personally and professionally.
Public Relations has always been more than a career choice for me; it’s a calling. I’m passionate not just about working in entertainment or with public figures, but about giving everyday individuals and underrepresented communities a platform. I believe in the power of storytelling to raise awareness and inspire real change. What keeps me grounded in this work is knowing it’s not a performance—it’s who I am at the core.
Before moving to Los Angeles, I worked as a 911 dispatcher and in social work in Washington, D.C. I’ve always had a heart for service—especially with youth and marginalized communities. That’s where my resilience is rooted: in knowing that the work I do affects lives, gives others a voice, and builds something greater than just myself. That purpose is what keeps me going, no matter what.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m Indigo Dickens, founder of Indigo Public Relations in Los Angeles. My agency is about more than just elevating brands—it’s about honoring authentic stories and amplifying underrepresented voices. The work excites me because every project is a chance to create real cultural impact, to connect communities, and to make sure no one’s story goes unheard. I’ve always believed PR should be as diverse as the world we live in, so I bring that spirit—rooted in culture and purpose—to every campaign and partnership.
My background spans entertainment, lifestyle, and social justice. As a Black woman standing 6’2”, I walk into every room unapologetically—taking up space with confidence and encouraging others to do the same. I see my height not just as a physical attribute but as a symbol of visibility and strength, and it inspires me to help my clients stand tall, too.
My journey began in Washington, DC, working as a 911 dispatcher and in social work. That’s where I grew my passion for service—especially for youth and marginalized communities. Now, in PR, I specialize in representing clients determined to speak truth to power. I love helping people use their voices to build lasting movements.
Indigo PR is evolving—look out for new launches, collaborations, and community events in 2025. At the end of the day, my work is my calling. I want my clients and my community to know: your story matters, your voice matters, and our culture deserves to be celebrated—boldly, creatively, and with heart.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three most impactful areas of knowledge in my journey have been: knowing myself, knowing others, and knowing my craft. My path as a businesswoman has been just as much about personal evolution as it’s been about professional achievement—spiritually, mentally, and physically. The ongoing work of self-discovery has been fundamental. I had to get really honest about who I am, what I bring, and what I need to leave behind. Not fitting into traditional molds, especially in a competitive city like Los Angeles, became my superpower. Instead of shrinking, I embraced taking up space and creating my own lane.
The knowledge of others—understanding how to connect, collaborate, and communicate across different backgrounds and perspectives—has shaped how I serve clients, build relationships, and open doors for underrepresented voices. And the knowledge of my craft has come from experience: diving into the entrepreneurial journey, growing through real-world lessons, and being led by seasoned pros in top entertainment agencies in LA.
For anyone early in their journey, my advice:
• Prioritize self-awareness and let that guide how you show up in every arena.
• Always be curious about people—empathy and understanding will take you far.
• And become a student of your craft; seek mentors, take chances, and let each experience teach you something new.
Embrace the process, honor every stage, and remember—growth in one area will elevate them all.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m always looking to collaborate with like-minded individuals who are passionate about their work and committed to making a meaningful impact. Whether you’re an entrepreneur, creative, community leader, or activist, I’m interested in partnering with those who share a vision of using storytelling and authentic connection to uplift voices and drive positive change. This goes for clients seeking representation as well as brands and creators eager to collaborate on exciting projects.
My work in PR, marketing, branding, and partnerships allows me to create alongside so many beautiful people who truly love what they do. I’m excited to expand our community and build a collective that supports and feeds one another—without gatekeeping and guided by a strong moral compass. Together, we uplift and elevate each other.
I’m also proud to serve as the Director of Public Relations for LeNoir Agency and the Executive Administrator for Educating Young Minds, where I continue to expand my impact. These roles have allowed me to build a wonderful community of talented, passionate people whom I deeply admire. The connections and collaborations I’ve formed in these spaces inspire me every day, and I’m excited about the opportunity to keep growing these relationships and building even stronger communities going forward.
You can connect with me directly via email ([email protected]). Let’s create together, inspire one another, and ensure that powerful stories receive the visibility and respect they deserve. Collaboration is where growth happens, and I can’t wait to see what we build side by side.
