Meet Indira Ramgarib Katwaroo

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Indira Ramgarib Katwaroo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Indira below.

Indira, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from my mom. Watching her handle life’s challenges with unwavering strength and grace teaches me the value of perseverance. She always finds a way to keep moving forward, no matter how tough things get. Her determination, her ability to adapt, and her positive outlook in the face of adversity inspires me every step of the way. Leading Magical Island Tours and Travel, I face my own challenges, but with her as my role model, I know that there is always a way through. My mom instilled in me that resilience is about commitment and finding strength within, which I now bring into my work and every new challenge.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

After losing my previous job, I found myself in a challenging position, needing a stable income to support myself and my family. Initially, I was hesitant about starting a new career, but a meeting about becoming a travel agent, along with the encouragement of my husband, led me to take the leap. I launched my own travel business, and I’ve never looked back.

Magical Island Tours and Travel LLC is more than a Host Agency. We’re also an education and marketing services company dedicated to helping travel agents like you grow and thrive. Our mission is to empower travel professionals by showing them how to attract the ideal clientele and succeed without burning out. With the power of online marketing, we guide agents in building businesses that align with their goals and values.

I chose to work specifically with travel experts because I believe in the positive impact of travel. By helping people explore new destinations and experience diverse cultures, you make a profound difference. Travel opens minds, builds connections, and fosters understanding, helping to break down barriers, including racial divides. The work travel agents do is invaluable, and I’m committed to supporting that work.

What drives me most is the chance to create financial empowerment. I love helping small business owners achieve success, seeing them thrive, and watching their lives transform.

At Magical Island Tours and Travel LLC, we put our clients’ dreams and experiences at the center. Our team is passionate about making travel fun, memorable, and enriching, and we work tirelessly to bring true value to every journey.

We aim to be the best home-based travel business in the industry, offering an opportunity with real value and superior products. Through our training and support, we provide a level playing field for anyone who wants to succeed in travel. Whether you’re dreaming of a new adventure or building a business, we’re here to help turn those dreams into reality.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three key qualities stand out as essential to my journey: resilience, adaptability, and relationship-building.

Resilience
Resilience has been the foundation of my journey, helping me push through uncertainty, especially when I first transitioned into the travel industry. For those starting out, remember that resilience isn’t about never feeling challenged; it’s about persevering despite challenges. Cultivate resilience by setting realistic goals, celebrating small wins, and learning from setbacks. These habits create a mindset that will carry you through tough times.

Adaptability
The travel industry is constantly evolving, and being adaptable has allowed me to navigate changes and stay relevant. Early on, I had to pivot to online marketing and adjust to new trends. My advice: be open to learning new skills, even if they’re outside your comfort zone. Take courses, seek mentorship, or attend industry workshops to keep growing and stay prepared for change.

Relationship-Building.
Relationships are everything in business. Building trust and understanding with clients and partners is how I’ve created a strong network and long-term success. For those just starting out, focus on building genuine connections by listening to clients and going the extra mile to help them feel valued. Strong relationships will always give you a competitive edge.

For anyone just beginning their journey, these skills can transform challenges into opportunities and pave the way for sustained growth and success.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

The people who have been most instrumental in helping me overcome challenges and grow in this journey are my mom, my siblings, my husband, my children, and my former employer, Mr. Roland Hall.

My mom and siblings have always been my support system, instilling in me the strength to persevere and stay grounded. My husband and children are my constant motivation, inspiring me to keep pushing forward, even when things get tough.

Mr. Roland Hall, my former employer, was also pivotal in my development. He not only believed in me but also taught me invaluable lessons about leadership, resilience, and adaptability. His mentorship and guidance provided a strong foundation, and I carry those lessons with me every day. I’m incredibly grateful to each of them for their support and encouragement.
