Meet Ingrid Gomez

We were lucky to catch up with Ingrid Gomez recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ingrid, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

I keep my creativity alive by embracing a mindset of lifelong learning and exploration. I actively seek new experiences through internships, books, and documentaries, which enrich my understanding and inform my artistic vision. Traveling to immerse myself in different cultures deepens my appreciation for diverse forms of expression and inspires me to create. Additionally, I use my photography to curate meaningful experiences in healthcare and beyond, aiming to tell stories that resonate with others. Ultimately, my faith-based lifestyle and commitment to walking alongside others fuel my passion and drive for creativity.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a passionate content creator and photographer dedicated to intertwining healthcare, social justice, and humanity through my artistic work. My different platforms such as, A Black Girl’s Existence, empowers and highlights Black beauty and excellence while sharing poetry that resonates with our shared experiences. I thrive on creating curated experiences that inspire connection and understanding. What excites me most are opportunities to tell stories that foster empathy and representation. Through my photography, I strive to capture the depth of human connection, focusing on the stories that foster empathy and representation. I believe that every image and word has the power to inspire change and ignite conversations that matter.

Currently, I’m excited to be working on The Yearning, an event planning organization based in Kansas City that aims to reinvent the art of how we gather as humans. With a focus on community, companionship, and intentional experiences, we strive to give back the power of connection. The Yearning’s motto encapsulates this mission: “The still desire we hold for community, companionship, conversation, and communion.” I look forward to collaborating with other organizers to curate events that reflect the beautifully diverse spirit of our city.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back on my journey, the three qualities that have profoundly shaped my path: empathy, creativity, and a steadfast commitment to lifelong learning. Empathy allows me to connect deeply with others, fostering an understanding of their unique experiences and stories. My creativity is my voice, enabling me to express these narratives through the lens of my photography and the rhythm of my poetry.

Additionally, my dedication to life-long learning fuels my growth and adaptability in a constantly evolving world. For those just starting their journeys, I wholeheartedly encourage you to embrace curiosity and seek out diverse experiences. Step out of your comfort zone consistently; this is where true growth occurs. Nurturing your passions is crucial, as they will guide you in developing the skills and insights needed to thrive. Trust that every experience, whether challenging or uplifting, contributes to your unique narrative and enriches your journey.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my mother did for me was to model unwavering strength and resilience. As a single parent, she took on countless roles and made sacrifices, teaching me the value of hard work and perseverance. Her deep faith not only instilled in me a strong sense of hope but also guided me to depend on God from an early age. Even though I never met my father, her reassurance that I had a father in God shaped my identity. Her journey as an immigrant opened doors for me, allowing me to build a life filled with opportunities and a desire to honor her sacrifices.
