We recently connected with Inka Winter and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Inka, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I don’t know that this question can actually be answered but I think overcoming trauma is a big part of it. But what makes a person respond to trauma in a way that leads to resilience while that doesn’t happen for everyone seems unclear. I was separated from my parents at a young age and grew up in what I now understand as a cult.
Gabor Mate says that Trauma is not what happens to you but how you process it, it is what happens inside of you. Does that mean that we are born with resilience? Coping mechanism can be useful to gain resilience but coping mechanisms are mostly counter productive in later life. So maybe self reflection, processing and therapy is what lead to my resilience?
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the owner and director of www.forplayfilms.com where we create ethical, feminist porn by women, for women. On a visual level we focus on cinematography, locations, wardrobe and everything that creates a beautiful image. The ethical aspect includes the consideration of the performers and their wants and needs, inclusivity and diversity as well as consent and autonomy. The feminist aspect means putting female pleasure first and portraying sexuality that women actually enjoy. This can be a variety of scenarios from romance to BDSM. What’s exiting is that I am incorporating mindfulness more into the scenes we film. We have a guided mindfulness masturbation as well as a tantric couple’s meditation on the website free for everyone as audio and filmed as a scene for our members.
And now we are starting to sell sex toys on the website! Focused on a simple, effective selection all tested by members of our team.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think one of the qualities that was useful to me is to just go for my ideas. If you let all the what ifs influence you it’s hard to find the motivation to do anything.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I think all the books I read on trauma have informed my view on psychology and humans in general and helped me understand myself better. I would recommend “The Body Keeps The Score” by Bessel van der Kolk and any books by Gabor Mate. Understanding why you feel the way you feel and act the way you act is the most fundamental prerequisite for accepting and navigating who you are.
What is helpful for everyone to understand is that trauma isn’t only very dramatic things that happened to you. Trauma is also the absence of care, consideration and understanding.
