Meet Irishimo

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Irishimo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Irishimo, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience from creating art & connections with others; as well as the power within myself to keep going. I have accepted that not everyone will support me & that’s okay! I have learned through life to accept big changes & to keep doing what makes me happy. Creating art makes me happy. It brings me joy to make others happy through my art. My goal is to “inspire & to be inspired.” My transition makes me happy, because I’m becoming the person I want to be. It has helped me see who is there to support my journey & the ones I need to weed out.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a traveling performance artist. I do a mixture of Drag, Burlesque, SFX makeup, Costume Design, as well as a traditional artist. (I love to draw with a pen & paper) I also do face/body painting for local events!

I love to be unorthodox with my costume designs. I combine recycled materials with store bought & my own personal creations to make something “new”.
My “dragsona” is a transforming monster who loves to change the game. They are mysterious, sexy & loves to give the audience a thrill~

June 27th, 2025 I will be in a cosplay burlesque show for “After Dark: Galaxy Fest” at Ivy Wild School (18+) in Colorado Springs.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

One of the skills I learned at thirteen was to sew. I was taught to use a Singer sewing machine & that changed everything. I tend to hand sew more than using the machine these days. I sometime apply for cosplay costume contests & it has taught me humbleness & that people are super creative! I’ve witnessed some beautiful cosplays that look like the characters have walked straight out of the comics/screens. I admire these artists. Especially when they combine their skills with other arts.

The other skill that has been impactful is makeup. Makeup can be anything from sexy to a full blown monster and they can be both sexy & creepy, the sky is the limit to what you want to do! I learned my skills from watching SFX documentaries & reading books by horror makeup masters. Jack Pierce, Ve Neill, Tom Savini, Rick Baker, etc. have been my inspirations since I was a child. Best advice is: Practice! Practice on yourself. Practice on a friend or sibling. Play with materials & make up different materials. Create your being!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

Sometimes breaks are well needed. When I get overwhelmed on a project, I step away for a bit. I drink some water, watch a show or browse social media until I feel ready to return to the project. Sometimes I won’t get back to to project for a day or two, depending on the timing of when I need to get it done.
