Meet Isaac Alley

We were lucky to catch up with Isaac Alley recently and have shared our conversation below.

Isaac, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Music has always been the place I’d go when I had nowhere else. Long before I was out playing shows and even before I played an instrument I knew that this was what I was going to do, that I was going to be a songwriter. There was never an outcome that led me anywhere but here, never a possible future where I didn’t make music. There’s something special that happens when I write a song, and I’m only getting started.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’ve been writing songs for about two years, but in that time I’ve written something like three hundred songs. I’ve never really encountered writers block or any kind of creative downturn, there’s always more to write about, always another story to be told. The ability to create something entirely new, something that the world has never seen before and then actually deliver it to people with my voice and my instrument, it’s something that can’t possibly be described. It’s a high that I’ve been chasing for years because there’s absolutely nothing like it. I played over twenty shows in 2023 and I’m hoping to double that number moving forward into next year!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe it all comes down to passion. I want it more than anything and that’s why I’ve found success early on in this journey. People around me have used words like gifted and talented to describe the rate at which I write and how quickly I’m able to learn new things, but to me it all comes back to the incredible amount of time that I put into it, but creativity is really what makes the whole thing work. I’ve seen a lot of really talented musicians limited by their lack of creativity and imagination. Inspiration is absolutely everywhere, and there’s nothing that can’t be a song if you have the willingness to just let your imagination take you wherever it will.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My family and my faith have always been my rock in whatever situation I’m in. My parents have done an amazing job instilling the correct values within me and teaching me to be kind and just in all things that I do, and my faith I carry wherever I go and in everything that I do. I’ve also benefitted from an outstanding local community of musicians who’ve helped me better understand how to deliver my songs to people and what really matters in the life of a musician.
