We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Isaac Barrientos. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Isaac below.
Hi Isaac , thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My optimism comes from my deep passion for music and my desire to help the community grow. Music has always been a powerful way to bring people together, and seeing how it can create connections and uplift others keeps me motivated and hopeful. The idea of building a supportive community where everyone can thrive is what fuels my optimism every day.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a creative director and DJ. Mi Casa Tu Casa is a nonprofit project born out of my passion for music and community. We invite different DJs to participate in our podcast, offering them exposure and a space to build their confidence while performing in a safe environment where the only thing that matters is the music. I wanted to create an inclusive space where words aren’t needed—the vibe speaks for itself. That’s why I chose the name Mi Casa Tu Casa, meaning ‘my house is your house,’ to make everyone feel welcome, regardless of who they are, and to give them a sense of belonging.
This project is more than just music; it’s a creative space where everyone can express themselves freely and feel safe doing so. We are currently relocating and planning to expand our vision, but our priority remains to maintain the good vibe and sense of community that we’ve cultivated from the start.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are persistence, intelligence, and creativity. Persistence has been key—no matter the obstacles, I’ve always kept pushing forward. Intelligence has helped me find new ways and solutions when things got challenging, and creativity has allowed me to approach situations from unique perspectives.
For those just starting their journey, my advice is simple: keep going, no matter what. Persistence is essential. Also, learn to find new solutions and see the positive side of things—having a positive mindset can make all the difference. And don’t underestimate the power of a smile; a positive attitude can change the world around you.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The biggest challenge I’m currently facing is finding a balance between my personal life and the continuity of the project. I love blending the two, but it often feels like there’s little time left for myself. Additionally, since Mi Casa Tu Casa is a nonprofit, we aren’t making money from it, which makes it difficult to invest so much time and passion while also dealing with personal financial challenges. To overcome this, I’m working on creating a system where people can support the project and feel a sense of belonging to it. Building a sustainable way for the community to contribute will help keep the vision alive and allow me to maintain a healthier balance.
