Meet Isabel Jenner Hernandez

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Isabel Jenner Hernandez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Isabel, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I found my purpose through a long and difficult journey of battling addiction, mental health struggles, and suicidal thoughts. For years, I was lost in darkness, but I eventually reached a breaking point where I realized that I couldn’t keep living the way I was. I made the decision to seek help—through therapy, support groups, and the love of my husband and three amazing children. Slowly (and together) I began to heal.

In that process, I discovered something powerful: my struggles didn’t define me, but they gave me a deeper strength and a deep empathy for others going through the same battles. I realized that my experiences had prepared me to help others find their way out of the darkness, just as I had done. That’s when I found my true calling—to support and uplift other women who are facing their own challenges.

I created She Who Soars to empower women, to show them that no matter how broken they may feel, they have the ability to rise, to heal, and to soar. Finding my purpose in this work has given my life a meaning I never thought possible.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m the Founder and President of She Who Soars, an organization dedicated to empowering women to rise above life’s challenges. What I do is help women heal, grow, and reclaim their strength, no matter what they’ve been through—whether it’s addiction, mental health struggles, or just feeling lost in their journey. Through mentorship, support programs, and community outreach, we provide the tools and encouragement women need to overcome their circumstances and embrace their potential.

What’s most exciting about this work is seeing the transformation in the women we serve. Watching them move from a place of doubt and hardship to finding confidence and purpose is incredibly rewarding. I know firsthand what it feels like to be in that dark place, and seeing others rise out of it is what fuels my passion for She Who Soars.

We’re working hard on various fundraisers as we are in the building phase of She Who Soars, and every bit of support helps us continue empowering women in our community. In addition to fundraising efforts, we are also working to partner with other leaders in our community who share our vision. Together, we aim to bring our mission to life and create a strong network of support that helps women rise from their struggles and embrace their strength.

These partnerships and fundraisers will allow us to expand our programs, reach more women, and make an even greater impact as we grow. Stay tuned for updates on how you can be involved and help us turn this vision into reality!

I’d love for people to know that She Who Soars is more than just an organization—it’s a movement. It’s a place where women can come as they are, with all their scars and struggles, and leave feeling empowered to soar to new heights.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back on my journey, I’d say the three most impactful qualities that helped me were resilience, self-awareness, and empathy.

1. Resilience

I faced many challenges—addiction, mental health battles, and even thoughts of giving up—but resilience kept me moving forward. Every time I got knocked down, I made the choice to get back up. Developing resilience comes from being able to endure setbacks without letting them define your future. My advice for building resilience is to remember that setbacks are part of the journey, not the end of it. Focus on taking things one step at a time, and don’t be afraid to seek help when you need it.

2. Self-Awareness

Understanding myself—my triggers, my struggles, and my strengths—was a huge part of my healing and growth. Self-awareness allowed me to confront my issues head-on, rather than run from them. For those early in their journey, I recommend spending time in self-reflection, whether through therapy, journaling, or simply being honest with yourself. The more you understand who you are, the more you can shape the life you want to live.

3. Empathy

My own struggles gave me a deep empathy for others going through similar battles. It’s this empathy that led me to create She Who Soars and help other women rise from their hardships. I’ve learned that true empathy comes from both listening and being present for others. My advice is to always be open to other people’s stories. Understanding their pain can strengthen your connection to the world and make your own journey more meaningful.

For those starting out, focus on building these qualities step by step. Develop resilience by pushing through difficult times, grow your self-awareness by taking a deep look at your experiences, and nurture empathy by supporting others. All of these will not only help you succeed, but they’ll make your journey more fulfilling.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I’m always looking for folks to partner and collaborate with, especially those who share a passion for empowering women and creating positive change in our community. She Who Soars is in a building phase, and we’re eager to work with leaders, organizations, and individuals who want to be part of this movement. Whether you’re a business owner, community leader, mental health advocate, or someone with a vision to uplift others, we’d love to connect and explore how we can collaborate.

We’re especially interested in partnering with people who can help expand our reach, support our mentorship and educational programs, or bring new resources and ideas to the table.
