We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Isabela Quilodrán a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Isabela, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I feel like I’m still journeying through the ever-unfolding path of confidence. As an actress, I sometimes find myself tangled in doubt, in a world that urges you to mold, to conform, to shape-shift into something more expected, less true.
It’s a quiet battle, this dance between self and standard. But with therapy, and the gentle power of self-love, I remind myself, again and again, that it’s not only okay to be different…it’s beautiful.
Because that’s what makes me me.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m currently producing a Brazilian award-winning show that we’re bringing to the Fringe Festival, which has been a wild but incredibly rewarding experience. I just wrapped a short film — it was an intense shoot, but I loved every second of diving deep into the character. And I’m also in the early stages of rehearsals for a new play, which I can’t say too much about yet, but I’m really looking forward to exploring this next role.
As an actress, I’d say I’m always chasing projects that challenge me — emotionally, creatively, sometimes even physically. I love work that pushes boundaries and tells stories that make people feel something real. I trained at the Stella Adler Art of Acting Conservatory, and that foundation really taught me how to blend craft with courage. And being Brazilian-Chilean, trilingual, and deeply connected to my roots, I bring a very personal perspective to everything I do.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Oh wow! Sso many things come to mind, but if I had to pick three, I’d say: study, storytelling, and patience.
First, studying, and I mean constantly. Acting isn’t just about being emotional on cue. It’s about being a student of life, psychology, movement, history… everything. Each role demands something new, and if you stop learning, you stop growing. I’m always taking classes, watching films, reading plays…it keeps me sharp and inspired.
Second: reading and understanding story. Honestly, if you don’t love reading, this career might drive you a little nuts. Scripts are our playground, and our homework. The more you read, the more you understand structure, rhythm, subtext… all the invisible threads that help you create something beautiful and honest.
And finally: patience. This is a long game. Sometimes you give your all in an audition and never hear back, and that’s okay. I truly believe the universe knows what it’s doing. Your moment will come, and maybe not in the form you expected. But it’ll be the right one for you.
My advice? It’s never too late to start. If this is what your heart wants, go for it. But respect the craft. It takes time, energy, and humility. You won’t “make it” in a day, but if you show up consistently, stay curious, and stay kind to yourself, you’ll keep getting better, and that’s what really matters.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Absolutely! I’m always open to collaborations! I get so inspired when I meet people who are wildly passionate about their ideas. There’s something really special about being part of someone else’s creative fire, helping bring a vision to life, whether it’s as an actress, a creative partner, or just someone to bounce ideas off of.
If you’re working on something that needs depth, soul, or a little boldness or even if you just want to hear my take on a concept, I’m definitely your girl!! And I’m also super excited to explore creative fields I haven’t stepped into yet. I love stretching myself and discovering new sides of storytelling.
