Meet Isadora Angulo

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Isadora Angulo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Isadora below.

Isadora , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
We understand Resilience as “the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties”. I’ve found over my lifetime that recovering from any difficulty can also be a slow process. For any trauma or event I have ever overcome (or keep overcoming), my resilience comes from a deep learning process of who I am and why I feel the way I do and that needs a deep compassion towards myself and others, without a “timer” on it. I allow myself to be. Just to be is enough. Understanding that keeps me going.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I specialize in one-of-a-kind custom shoe creations. I make shoes with my own hands at home, with domestic tools.. To me the act of creation is a great responsibility. From beginning to end I feel responsible for what is that I create, that is why I mostly work with natural fabrics like linen and cotton, and some of the techniques I use in my work are recycling and up-cycling, hand painting, crochet appliqué, upholstery and embroidery, also I get all my materials from environmentally conscious small business owners as myself.

I think what makes my shoes unrepeatable and exclusive is the fact that I never repeat one design, every pair of shoes is unique. I work one on one with my clients creating a meaningful product brought to life by a decision, a feeling, an idea. For example, I recently made a pair of shoes for a client who’s getting married, and she told me the story of how she loves ferns and the meaning of them to her, while also wanting them to be comfortable. We worked for a month to make the shoes she dreamt (see photos attached) and we both love the results.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1-It was important to me to go to college and keep learning my craft over the years. 2-It is important to me to make mistakes and learn from them, and never stop, just pause if needed.
3-I stopped trying to do everything PERFECT and the results are better.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to be artists themselves and guide me with their example, teaching us that our Art was the most valuable asset we had. Growing up with my parents, Art was our path, our therapy, our goal, our freedom.
