We were lucky to catch up with Isaiah Jamal recently and have shared our conversation below.
Isaiah, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Although this kind of situation can be daunting, I tend to look at it as an opportunity to offer a new perspective to those who normally wouldn’t interact with me. It serves as a teachable moment where my voice can really shine and I enjoy taking full advantage of that.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Love the art in yourself.
That’s the goal I have for all of my clients.
I was born and raised in Fredericksburg VA, and I went on to study acting at Christopher Newport University.
As an actor, I’ve always been taught to recognize the beauty within people. All of their loves, hates, passions, fears, and complexities align to make them truly unique, bringing a special energy to the world that can’t be replicated.
My camera allows me to capture these intricacies in a way that highlights each person’s individual gifts, and creates moments that sincerely show the world who they are. It’s important for us to be comfortable within ourselves, and my goal with my work is to allow gaining this confidence in who we are to be not only entertaining, but empowering.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most important qualities to me are patience, kindness, and a willingness to collaborate. Above all else, the most important thing for newcomers to this kind of work is to be someone that people enjoy working with. Leave your ego at the door, be open to ideas from everyone, and make sure to have a positive energy with those you’re working with.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’m looking for passionate people with a voice that they want to share with the world. You can reach me on instagram @pintsizedprods
