We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Isis Tiara. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Isis below.
Isis, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Honestly, MY HAIR! I have always been a creative person, but I feel like my hair allows me to express myself like no other; from the colors to each style, I am able to bring myself to life!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a self taught braider located in Riverdale, Ga. I think being self taught makes me special. As you’ve read in previous stories, I took cosmetology for 4 years in high school, fell in love with the course, but noticed braiding was not part of the curriculum… SO I TAUGHT MYSELF. After many trial and error techniques, styles, etc, I’ve finally fallen into a rhythm that works for me and my clientele. I’ve practiced and practiced to get to the point I am at today, and I believe my work speaks volumes. I appreciate all the encouragement, support, and love from potential clients, current clients and future clients.
In 2024, be on the look out for some special styles, some must haves and a product list. STAY TUNED, AND DO NO SLEEP ON ISIS TIARA.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe my WILL POWER, FAILURE, and just TRYING was most impactful. Failure being the most impactful because you remember that feeling, and you notice where you may have made a mistake along the way; you critique as you go and remind yourself of what to improve on next time around.
The best advice I could give someone that is considering stepping into the beauty field is this: THIS IS NOT A RACE, IT IS A MARATHON. You are NOT in competition with anyone, and his/her success DOES NOT take away from yours. Remember that everything happens on GOD’s timing, and not your own. And finally, in the words of Steve Harvey “don’t worry about the HOW TO, just start. Don’t let the “HOW TO” trip you out of your blessing.”
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is full of love, life, and adventure because that’s what I feel when I’m braiding hair. It’s truly an experience booking with me: from the conversations, to me being your hype man when you see your hair, to the sermon we MIGHT JUST HAVE & 9/10 we will lol, to just feeling at home when you’re there with me at your appointment. Our vibe bounces off of one another’s frequency and we share ideas, we are on one accord and we respect one another. We build a bond that is beyond braider/clientele and we uplift one another and most importantly, we RESPECT ONE ANOTHER. That’s the clientele that attracts me and that God has blessed me to attract. I can only hope and pray I can continue to do so as well.
