We recently connected with J. Augustus and have shared our conversation below.

J. , thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
One thing with haters and nay-sayers is its a good indication your moving in a right direction. I always understood the more people that know about you and your art/music/etc the more fans you will gather but also more haters. The hate means your achieving what others wish but for some reason or another they cant.. so they “hate on great” to make themselves feel better. I love a good honest hater. Sometimes it puts things into perspective. Not everyone will like you… but alot more will like you than hate you… so remember they are the minority. Dust your shoulder off and move on.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a record label owner, a father, an live performance artists, a producer, host and emcee. And graphic designer. I coach basketball at the YMCA and love to make street art.

I love what I do! Make and release music. And see the world.

At the moment I am working with an artist development agency and have recently taken on a manager. So the help to focus on building myself as an artist (J. AUGUSTUS) will build my label (QUAZISCIENCE RECORDINGS). Setting plans for the rest of this year to attack 2024 with a roster of artists possibly.

At the moment I’m releasing 13 year old sons first album and loving every min of that. He’s a talented young man that goes by XANDER CRUZ.

At the same time I am running a label that has partnered with DNB Heroz and General Monkz in SATX and we are having the largest single remix featured party the state of Texas has ever seen.. multiple artists from the states to the UK have remixed one of myself and mc monkz tunes names “soul free” the likes of LionDub, Nicky Blackmarket, kadilak, krispe, Bodydicers, korax, wickid and meladee, and CAB 3.

That releases on the 7th of October at a Giant show at SNAKE HILL SOCIAL CLUB in SAN Antonio

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
First.

Shut up and listen!
If someone who knows about anything you need to know shut up and listen and take notes. You will always learn something.

Second.
Invest in yourself. Make your self professionally look the part of what your trying to do. Invest in marketing your brand and believe you will get ahead.

Third but not least.

Consistency! Especially if you own your own business. You must have time managment and Consistency. Without it you lose all credibility. And thats the last thing you want.
