We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful J.T. Hiskey. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with J.T. below.
J.T., we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
Thats a great question. My generosity that I have spread thorugh-out my entire life, honestly came from my sweet mother. My mom has always taught me to be kind to others, show respect, and always be there for the ones who need it the most. Music has given me the chance to spread even more generosity, because it has allowed me to have a platform where I can inspire others while also meeting so many amazing new people every single day. Nurse life also helped me understand generosity even more clearer in a way, because working in the nursing profession really changed my life as a whole. Being around those who are suffering, or need constant care, really helped me understand even more than before, that I need to give back and make a positive difference in peoples lives. All I ever wanted to do was to help people, but both the music scene and the nurse life, has given me a bigger and bolder perspective on giving back and putting out positive vibes.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a musician from Salt Lake City, Utah. I play the guitar, while also using my vocal cords at the exact same time. I have been touring across the United States for almost a decade now, and I also used to be a radio host back in 2017 for ALT 101.9 located in Salt Lake City. I have been able to open for some really established acts such as Afroman, DJ Yella from NWA, E40, and many more. I love touring and meeting so many amazing new people everywhere I go. On May 1st, 2018; I was featured on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where he featured my single titled “Love”. Forever blessed for every opportunity in my lifetime, and I cannot wait for what is next!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Being positive, having a vision, and knowing how to be yourself at all times. Those are the three key traits that I have always carried with me, and they all help you go very far in life. My best advice for folks who want to improve on these, is honestly, just remember them and never forget them. It is easy to forget all three, but I do believe they are essential to success in this thing called life.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Honestly, going to the gym. The gym has been my therapy to whenever I feel overwhelmed with the music industry, the nursing profession, or just life in general. There is just something about hitting the gym during times like that, which helps you feel better and get the stress of you. The gym is very therapeutic, and I truly believe it is good for anyone no matter who you are. I also believe in writing music as a good way of getting stress off you, and letting your creative side come into place.
