Meet J Woods

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to J Woods. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

J, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my mom. Growing up, she made a way out of every situation in order for me to survive. As a up-and-coming photographer, nothing was given to me. From working at the best studio in Atlanta to working in the music industry with artist I am inspired by, I worked day in and day out to gain the every clientele, opportunity, and reputation I have now. With all that God blessed me with, I do strive to become the best “1% photographer” Atlanta ever seen.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is JWoods and I am a photographer/videographer from Pasadena, CA. I recently gained a lot of buzz around the city of Atlanta with my 3D photos I shoot with known artist and social media influencers. As a photographer, I never knew how inspirational I became to the city of Pasadena, the Inland Empire, and even Atlanta. Underratedflix served as a stepping stone for me to build confidence and accept my individuality as a student at Morehouse College. I can now say that my purpose in picking up a camera in 2018 has not only influenced me to keep going, but this act also influenced my class and the generation after us at Morehouse College to get into content creating. Being stagnant is never my goal in this game, so I have created a group, Cinematic Shooters Only, to help change the views on content creating in the brand and music industry. I have a personal project that I’m ready to finish to show my love and gratitude to my fans in the city of Atlanta. I can not reveal any dates due to me waiting on the “right moment” to reveal this special moment. I confidently feel like this next drop will create my mark in the city as I decide if departing to another city will take place or not. Who knows, Atlanta may have gained a lifetime resident to create and uplift this music industry with history breaking content.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back I think knowing, trusting, and being yourself are the 3 knowledgable things I’ve learned through my journey. Atlanta is filled with photographers and videographers. So finding ways to separate myself from others has been one of the most difficult skill to master. My advice, find your style and capitalize off of that forever.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am looking to collaborate with camera brands, influencers, artist, and social media platforms. If I had the chance to collab with anyone from these categories my contact procedures would be the same, which is email me.
