Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jabari Dobson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jabari, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I found my purpose by accident. I remember being in nursing school and doing my first psychiatry rotation and actually disliking it. I loved the patients but I didn’t like the way the staff spoke about the patients and treatment. I first worked in critical care after graduation and hated it. I was downtrodden at first because I was sure that was my purpose and was looking for change and decided to do psych. I knew I found my purpose when everyday I felt like going to work and it didn’t feel like work. What also confirmed it for me is small moments I would continue to get confirmation. Beyond just the work of it I had a deep feeling that this is what I was blessed to do.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Jabari Dobson and I am an entrepreneur and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I am originally from Savannah,GA and I now reside in ATL. I own my own private practice Tranquility Telepsychiatry and a multidisciplinary healthcare business called Healthcare Finders LLC. My passion for healthcare originated years ago as a teen when helping with caring for my late grandfather. I became a CNA in high school and continued to strive further. I also invest in real estate and I am a licensed realtor. I’m launching a few things this year regarding healthcare and real estate and I’m excited to expand my acumen. My practice currently services 8 states and accepts over 20 insurances. My greatest hobby and passion is shopping and fashion. I love fashion because of the creativity and expression we have when wearing clothes.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Resilience,Discipline and Humility.Resilience by far is needed to be successful. I have achieved many great things within my life but they didn’t happen without challenges. I’m a firm believer in God will test our resilience before we can elevate.Discipline is important to all areas of life. I find that my discipline has saved me from many things that would be to my detriment. To go where you’re meant you cannot do what everyone else does. It takes discipline to focus on yourself and purpose. At times discipline may seem different to everyone else but it is worth the sacrifice. Humility is paramount of all things. Humility helps us remain grounded within the glorious moments of life. I’m humble because I acknowledge the importance of being human and we’re all made different but we all share life. I’m well aware of my capabilities and wonder and that’s why I can embrace humility with ease.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents blessed me with true love and acceptance. I talk to both my parents daily they’re truly my best friends. I talk freely and about everything with them. Both are supportive and taught me so much about the world. It is a blessing to say that because so many people lack that from their parents especially in my community of lgbt. I’m thankful everyday for them.
