Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jack Barter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jack, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity comes from a combination of my experiences, family values, and the people who’ve influenced me. I’ve been very lucky to grow up in a close-knit family that is my foundation. It’s been a huge influence on the person I’ve become and I have the desire to give back and make a positive impact.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I established JB Sports Photography in 2023 to produce high-quality photos at a low cost for high school athletes. I see myself as a future entrepreneur and business owner, expanding my resume by adding social media and photography. By establishing JB Sports Photography as a student in high school, I’ve learned hands-on, early in life, how to successfully lead a business while also giving back to my community.
As of February 15, 2024, I’ve launched “Capturing For A Cure,” in which my goal is to help join the fight against childhood cancer. With every photo purchased from jbsportsphotography.smugmug.com, a portion of the profits are donated to the Rally foundation for Childhood Cancer Research. In Total as of September 9, 2024 I have raised $4,000+ for the foundation.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are CONNECTIONS, CONNECTIONS, and CONNECTIONS! Over the past year and a half, meeting over 100 photographers has been incredibly valuable, as they’ve shared tips, tricks, and their favorite spots on the field. These connections extended beyond just photographers and introduced me to small business owners and nonprofit advisors. Being a high school student, I also made connections within my school, whether through the athletic department or administration, making me feel integrated and supported. For those early in their journey, my advice is to actively build your network, engage with a diverse range of people, and make the most of the resources around you. These connections will provide guidance, open new opportunities, and help you feel supported as you grow.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Both my mother and father were collegiate athletes. Both worked in college athletics. My mother still does. I was one of those “coaches’ kids,” despite my mother being in athletic administration, I was at every game. Reflecting on my upbringing, I’m amazed at how much of my innate personality comes from athletics, which explains much about who I am. Many of my traits come straight from the court, field, and gym. In other words, athletics shaped me physically, mentally, and socially; Many successful people embody the traits I’ve witnessed in my athletic upbringing. Being around these competitive and successful people makes me want to be like them.
