Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jack Hill. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jack, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
In the world of the arts confidence in something that needs constant attention. Just like a healthy diet it must be supplied daily.
If you try something and it isn’t successful, an art work doesn’t sell, you don’t get the part in the show, your writing isn’t published…
You do it again…but a little different
Don’t repeat the exact thing, but keep creating and trying new ideas.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I create sculpture in multiple media’s.
I model in clay (mostly figurative) and then cast in bronze,
I carve in wood,
I assemble found and repourposed objects.
The subject matter i explore varies, from the humor of roller skating bananas to thought provoking imagery on life, religion, moral dilemma and/or the simple beauty of the diverse world we inhabite.
My works are sold at art festivals around Florida and from my gallery/studio/home in Deland.
.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My first career as a mime and magician began by watching the great performers of early live TV. Then studying with Marcel Marceau in Paris, France opened me up to the greatness of the world stage and the diversity of all art everywhere.
The building and common sense engineering skills i learned from my father were essential in my choice to build a sail boat and explore the world of water.
The epiphany that brought me to sculpture catalyzed all my various skills into a drive to create in 3 dimensional ways.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
There were, and still are, many individuals who spread influence on my path. Every day someone, or something, presents a new idea or question. It just requires the time to explore that opportunity.
