We were lucky to catch up with Jack Utermoehl recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jack, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
For self-care, I rely on two core practices: Vinyasa yoga and kriya yoga meditation. As a busy entrepreneur managing multiple roles—from consulting on small business process optimization to running my own yoga company selling cork yoga mats, props, and jewelry—it’s essential to have practices that keep me grounded and effective.
Vinyasa yoga serves as my primary physical outlet, allowing me to release tension, stay active, and maintain energy throughout the day. It’s more than just movement; it’s a way to reset, reconnect with my breath, and find flow even in the busiest moments. Kriya yoga meditation complements this by providing clarity and focus. It’s a practice of stillness that helps me filter through mental noise, stay present, and approach challenges with a calm, solution-oriented mindset.
These practices directly impact how I work. They make me more attentive to detail, relaxed under pressure, and motivated to navigate the inevitable ups and downs of entrepreneurship. Self-care isn’t optional for me—it’s a critical part of maintaining the resilience needed to manage day-to-day operations while staying creative and adaptable.
By taking care of myself, I show up with the energy and focus required to lead effectively, make thoughtful decisions, and move forward with intention, no matter what comes my way.
It helps that yoga is a deep rooted passion of mine so I don’t feel like self-care is a choir, it’s more of a reward.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m the founder of Asivana Yoga and Bhav Spiritual Jewelry, brands focused on mindfulness and intentional living. Asivana Yoga offers eco-conscious yoga gear like cork mats and props as well as an online resource for all things yoga, while Bhav Spiritual Jewelry creates silver and gold pieces to allows people to wear meaningful symbols.
Alongside these, I run Nectagrity, a consulting business helping small businesses optimize processes and achieve sustainable growth.
What excites me most is the opportunity to connect people to what matters most to them—whether by enhancing someone’s yoga practice, offering a meaningful piece of jewelry, or helping a business thrive. This year, we’re expanding Asivana Yoga with new props and meditations, launching fresh Bhav jewelry collections, and supporting more businesses through Nectagrity.
Each venture is about creating connection, growth, and positive change.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three qualities and skills have been pivotal in my journey:
Perseverance
I began in a place of depression and poverty, facing a steep climb ahead. Perseverance was my foundation—I took one step at a time, and even after 15 years, I continue moving forward. For anyone early in their journey, remember that progress isn’t immediate but cumulative. Focus on small, consistent steps toward your goals.
I follow the path of 1% from Warren Buffet. You don’t need to do 100% today, you just need to do 1% everyday. Compounding interest is a mathematical beast.
Empathy
My ability to deeply understand and connect with emotions has been transformative. By empathizing with others’ struggles, I’ve fostered genuine connections beyond transactions. My advice: nurture your capacity to listen without judgment.
The more you understand yourself, the more you’ll connect authentically with others.
Yogic Knowledge
In my 20s, I was voracious in my pursuit of knowledge, especially around yoga. This obsession taught me that knowledge is the seed of wisdom when paired with reflection. For those starting out, dive deep into what inspires you- like really deep, be obsessed. Learn from as many sources as you can—it will shape your perspective and fuel your growth.
These three pillars—perseverance, empathy, and knowledge—have guided me through challenges and successes alike, and they’re accessible to anyone willing to cultivate them.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, I’m actively looking to partner and collaborate with yoga influencers, yoga studios, and yoga teachers who share a vision of connecting the world through yoga. My goal is to support those who inspire others by sponsoring their work, offering discounts on products, and highlighting their journeys and purpose.
I also sponsor and support yoga festivals. It’s one of the main directories on my website.
If you’re passionate about yoga and want to collaborate, I’d love to hear from you!
Let’s explore ways to support each other and bring more mindfulness, connection, and growth to the world. Feel free to connect with me through my website Asivana Yoga (https://asivanayoga.com/)
