We recently connected with Jackie Harsh and have shared our conversation below.
Jackie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Finding my purpose was a journey deeply rooted in my love for my two daughters and my family. Watching them grow and thrive, I realized the profound importance of self-care and how it impacts our well-being. From my family, I learned that self-care is not a luxury but a necessity. This realization led me to open Bomborama. Creating products that promote relaxation and self-care, allows me to share this essential lesson with others. Through my business, I aim to help people find those small, meaningful moments of peace and rejuvenation in their busy lives, just as I have learned to do from my family.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My husband and I met and lived in Ohio before moving to North Carolina, where we welcomed our two wonderful daughters. During my pregnancy with my youngest, I realized that self-care was crucial not just for myself but for my family as well. I wanted to set a positive example for my daughters, demonstrating that nurturing oneself is essential for overall well-being.
I am passionate about creating unique and creative products—hand-painted bath bombs in various shapes, some with toys inside, all designed to add a touch of fun and creativity to self-care routines. I am constantly innovating and have several new items in development that I hope to unveil soon.
The wholesale side of my business is the largest, allowing me to reach a broader audience while I balance a full-time job alongside running my business. Additionally, I attend several in-person markets throughout the year, many in Charlotte and some in surrounding areas up to Clemmons and Mooresville. This dual role underscores my commitment to my craft and my dedication to promoting the importance of self-care.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are thoroughness, attention to detail, and commitment. Thorough research and extensive testing were essential before launching my business, ensuring every aspect was meticulously planned and executed. Attention to detail is crucial in checking and double-checking each product before it reaches customers, guaranteeing the highest quality. Commitment has driven me to persevere through challenges, staying dedicated to my vision and goals even during difficult times.
My advice for those early in their journey is to maintain a mindset of continuous learning. Never assume you have all the answers, even after thorough research. There is always something new to learn in any business, regardless of how long you’ve been in it.
Imposter syndrome is a common challenge, and as business owners, we can often be our own harshest critics. Building a strong support system is crucial. I am fortunate to have an amazing network of family and friends who provide honest feedback, test my products, and support me in various ways, such as attending markets on my behalf, sharing social media posts, and recommending my business to others. This support has been invaluable in helping me grow and improve.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my mother did for me was to always be present and make me a priority. As the only child of a single parent, we were very close, and her unwavering support was a constant source of encouragement. She consistently supported my dreams, even if my interests shifted quickly, and never told me I couldn’t achieve something. This belief in my abilities has stayed with me into adulthood and parenthood, and it’s a value I strive to instill in my own daughters.
My oldest daughter takes great pride in my business and shares in my excitement with each new order. She often asks to help, and you might see her at a market with me or unknowingly purchase a bath bomb with a label she put on. This continuity of support and involvement is something I cherish deeply and hope to pass on to my children.
