Meet Jackie Romero

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jackie Romero. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jackie below.

Jackie, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I definitely had to work on my confidence and self-esteem especially when I was first starting out. I was self conscious about everything and in turn always felt I had to over compensate with clients to make them feel they were getting the experience they wanted. Over time I got more and more comfortable with knowing my worth and that I was truly not only putting my best foot forward into my work but really honed in on the quality of the experience I was giving my clients and finally felt confident in my work. Positive feedback over the years has also helped me know what I am doing is making a difference and helping women feel their best which is truly the best confidence booster for both of us!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I started off thinking makeup would be a side gig for me, just something fun I could get into after graduation high school. As someone who painted growing up I loved anything artistic and any way I could express myself in a creative way. I enjoyed makeup school so much and really connected with my teacher who then advised me I should get my cosmetology license which I did the following year. I got my makeup certificate in 2011 and my cosmetology license in 2013 two years later.

I now mostly focus on makeup and have amazing team of artists I work with who assist me in all the hair for my clients as well as makeup when we have a large group. Although I love doing all kinds of events I have found my true passion in doing weddings. I love being a part of someone’s special day and feel I can truly connect with my brides to give them their ideal look so that they feel like the best version of themselves. We usually get to do the whole bridal party and family as well which is such an honor.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important qualities or skills I would say were the most impactful in my journey were perseverance, optimism, and eager to learn/always looking for ways to improve. Being able to persevere means you never give up and I truly feel if you stick with something you love and not let the set backs win then you will become successful. Over coming obstacles only makes you stronger.

Staying optimistic and having a positive outlook on life as well as your career I feel is truly one of the biggest skills you can have in becoming successful. Focusing on all of the clients I love and the aspects about my job that I love help keep me going and cancel out some of the difficult experiences. Positive thinking always cancels out the negative.

In an artistic field or any field for that matter continuing education, being open to improvement or constructive criticism can only help you. I am always looking for new ways to learn, the latest products and what I can do to make my business better. If you stay stuck in your ways or closed off to change then you limit your success.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Both of my parents were very hardworking when I was growing up and still to this day are so seeing that definitely helped me develop a good work ethic. They were also very supportive with all of my artistic endeavors so when I chose a career in beauty they were very on board. My mom is a career counselor at Los Angeles Valley College so I was always aware of alternative careers and she always instilled in us that when you do what you love you never work a day in your life and I truly feel I found a path that embodies that for me.
