We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jackie Saucer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jackie, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
This is a question that had been yearning to be answered for some time now, without knowing it was ever needed to be expressed. Though I get my resilience from my Father, and my Father’s passing. From the moment my father passed this past February, it seemed that my worldview took a 180 shift. I knew I had to take on a role with myself that meant from that moment forward, I will have to carry myself on & make myself place one foot in front of the other in all ambitious pursuits, as well as personal life journey. Even if it meant in the midst of tears & deep grief. Months of doing that daily, with turmoils dealt with alone by myself that no one sees, grew a resilience in me that I believe can not be uprooted & is a foundational strength that I live and carry with me daily through everything in life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an actor with aspirations beyond measures who has been working on multiple different TV shows recently. As well as a feature film I will be working on soon. Some that have came out already, and some on the way. Alongside that, I find time to create my own lane with my writing & directing. I have been working on a series of Microshort films/cinematic skits that showcase a wide range of acting, stories, and highlighting my talents to bring exposure to what I could be capable of at a Major Film production level if given the proper opportunity. It is called Layovers & is showcased weekly every Tuesday on Instagram since November 2023. It has been growing every week & has been providing the exposure of my writing on levels that I may not have possibly seen for myself previously. Allowing opportunities to expand from here as I plan to venture out soon as well. – On that note, there is a new YouTube series titled “Security” that my talented actor friend ‘Zavieh’ & myself have started that has a promising launch coming up that is exciting to look forward to.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important qualities, skills, or knowledge that were most impactful for myself I would say were consistency, conviction, & confidence. The three C’s. – consistency to always progress with every steady step. Conviction to keep you driven on your vision. And confidence to believe you can & believe you deserve it.
My advice for folks early in their journey to improve on these is simply to find those things, or one thing, that you have an unwavering desire for. Then from there you can grow all these with a steady beat of the drum – working day in & day out on your path.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of growth & improvement in the past 12 months have been my consistency & improvement in my writing as a screenwriter. As well as my depth of character as an actor, which naturally deepens as life depends as well. Which has definitely been a major factor in the craft becoming sharpened on my end through each role I partake in.
