We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jackson Harris. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jackson below.
Jackson, so great to have you on the platform and excited to have you share your wisdom with our community today. Communication skills often play a powerful role in our ability to be effective and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your communication skills.
When I was 18, I decided I wanted to become a reader. When I told my parents this, they each gave me a book. My mom gave me The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey, and my dad gave me The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John C. Maxwell. These books completely transformed the way I viewed relationships and had a profound impact on my communication style.
The single most impactful lesson for me was the “Law of Connection” from Maxwell. This principle emphasizes the importance of maintaining a servant attitude to authentically connect with others and build lasting rapport. The stronger the relationship, the more likely individuals or groups are to support one another, both personally and professionally.
I was able to put this law into practice at the Jiu-Jitsu studio. When people entered the gym, 90% were white belts just starting out. On the mats, everyone wore the same uniform, eliminating any basis for preconceived notions or judgments about anyone. You wouldn’t know if you were speaking to a doctor or a cook. This environment reinforced the values of respecting and loving everyone, no matter their background or where they came from—values my mother instilled in me at a young age through church.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My primary focus is faith-based entertainment, where I aim to share morals and values that enrich culture through media such as music, film, events, and publications. I believe in creating content that inspires and uplifts, promoting messages of faith, hope, and purpose.
Our work involves serving companies and individuals in this space, helping them build their brands and effectively reach their audiences. By connecting people, ideas, and opportunities, we enable our clients to expand their impact while staying true to their mission and values.
Connecting people and ideas is at the heart of what we do. Guided by a strong foundation of faith and a passion for storytelling, we strive to bridge the gap between creativity and purpose, fostering a culture that reflects authenticity, community, and spiritual growth.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Faith:
My faith has been the cornerstone of everything I do. It gives me purpose, keeps me grounded, and helps me navigate challenges with a sense of hope and resilience. For anyone starting out, I’d encourage you to cultivate a strong foundation of personal values and beliefs, whatever they may be for you. Knowing your “why” will guide you through both successes and setbacks.
Adaptability:
The entertainment industry, particularly in the faith-based space, is dynamic and constantly evolving. Being open to change, learning new skills, and staying curious has been critical to my growth. For those early in their journey, embrace the idea of lifelong learning. Be willing to pivot when opportunities or challenges arise, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.
Relationship-Building:
Connecting with people—clients, collaborators, and audiences—has been a defining part of my journey. Building authentic relationships based on trust and mutual respect opens doors and creates lasting impact. My advice for those starting out is to focus on being a good listener, serve others with sincerity, and surround yourself with people who inspire and challenge you to grow.
Success is not just about skills or talent; it’s about mindset, character, and how you treat others. Stay humble, keep learning, and don’t lose sight of the bigger picture in your work and your life.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My parents have been the most educating, supportive, and inspiring individuals in my journey of faith and profession. My mother has always been an incredible example of resilience and ingenuity. Watching her build businesses and consult clients throughout my childhood—and still to this day—taught me the importance of perseverance, creativity, and believing in your vision.
My father has set a remarkable example of what a servant leader can accomplish. He is the hardest-working man I know, embodying the values of humility, dedication, and putting others before himself. His ability to lead with integrity and a servant’s heart has profoundly shaped the way I approach both my personal and professional life.
The lessons I’ve learned from my parents go beyond words—they’ve shown me through their actions how faith, hard work, and service to others can make a lasting impact. Their influence continues to guide me in striving to be both a better leader and a person of faith.
