We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jaclyn Lineback a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jaclyn, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
The path to discovering my purpose was shaped by a blend of curiosity, a passion for health, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
From a young age, I’ve been drawn to exploration, constantly seeking out new experiences and trying new things. This innate curiosity has been pivotal in understanding what truly resonates with me and where my skills lie.
Health emerged as a central focus as I witnessed the physical decline of my grandparents. As someone who is very active with a million of hobbies, I realized the importance of prioritizing my health to sustain my lifestyle well into my later years.
Entrepreneurship has been a constant thread throughout my life, from childhood lemonade stands to working with startups out of college. The desire to create something meaningful and impactful has consistently driven me, shaping my purpose.
Though I knew I wanted to start a business to help people live longer, healthier lives, it took years of exploration and gaining experience to fully understand how to achieve that mission. This journey continues to unfold through my efforts with HartSpan.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
At HartSpan, it is our mission to empower people to live healthy active lives through their later years by providing holistic health solutions and education.
Prescription and over-the-counter medications can be beneficial and even life-saving, but they pose risks, especially when taken regularly over long periods of time or during vulnerable times like pregnancy. These cumulative side effects can lead to other complications. Over-the-counter options oftentimes contain added ingredients like dyes, flavors, and synthetic fillers, which can also be harmful over the long term and during pregnancy. Prioritizing prevention through lifestyle changes and natural supplements should be the initial approach to common health conditions. People need both education and access to natural alternative solutions specifically targeting these health conditions, which HartSpan is here to provide.
Our first product, Khelp, is made of 100% natural, premium, and sustainable ingredients, mainly Alginate, derived from seaweed. When Alginate interacts with stomach acid, it forms a gel-like barrier that floats above the acid, preventing it from traveling into the esophagus and stopping reflux from happening. Due to this non-toxic, non-pharmacologic mechanism of action, Khelp is uniquely safe for long-term use and pregnancy. MD and science-backed, Khelp is both effective and long-lasting. Our capsules are vegan, non-GMO, gluten-free, GMP-certified, and manufactured in the USA.
As we continue on our journey with Khelp, combating acid reflux naturally and effectively, we are excited by our future roadmap of solutions that will continue to redefine how we proactively manage common health conditions, prioritizing long-term well-being.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say that three key elements that significantly influenced my journey were driving action, developing mental and emotional resilience, and effective budget management.
Driving Action:
Entrepreneurship is about more than just having ideas; it’s about taking action to turn those ideas into reality. Being proactive means not waiting for opportunities to come to you but actively seeking them out and taking steps to make things happen. Whether it’s reaching out to potential customers, networking with industry professionals, or experimenting with new marketing strategies, taking action is essential for progress. It’s important to plan and mitigate risk, but not to the detriment of progress. Being willing to do things, fail, and keep moving is critical. You never really know what’s going to work (or fail) until you try it.
Mental and Emotional Resilience:
The journey of starting a business is filled with ups and downs, successes, and setbacks (but often mainly downs and setbacks in the very beginning!). Developing mental and emotional resilience is crucial for navigating the turbulence and staying focused on long-term goals. Resilience involves bouncing back from failures, maintaining a positive mindset, and persevering in the face of endless challenges. This is something I still work on every day, but I have found it helpful to prioritize self-care (especially exercise), seek support from mentors and peers, and practice techniques like mindfulness or meditation to manage stress and maintain mental clarity.
Effective Budget Management:
In the early stages of building a business, resources are often limited, and working within tight budget constraints is a reality. It’s critical to be scrappy, finding creative ways to accomplish goals and make progress with limited resources. It involves prioritizing spending, seeking out low-cost or no-cost solutions, and maximizing the impact of every dollar spent. I was able to master this skill before starting my company by managing my personal finances, as well as by educating myself with financial planning books and courses. Even if you have a large amount of funding or can drive significant revenue early on, the better you can manage your finances and stay lean, the more successful your business will be.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My parents have done a lot for me, but one of the most impactful things my parents did for me was to grant me the freedom and autonomy to explore my interests and chart my own course. They always trusted me and instilled in me the confidence to pursue my passions and try new things without fear of failure. Whenever I needed guidance or support, they were there, ready with answers to my questions and encouragement to keep pushing forward, without pushing me in any specific direction. This unwavering support and belief in my abilities empowered me to discover my passions and develop my purpose.
