We were lucky to catch up with Jaclyn Moy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Jaclyn with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I think it comes from constantly craving to experience new things. When you are doing what you love everyday, it’s just an ongoing adventure and the money follows. It feels good to work on projects. This journey has led me to the most beautiful people and rewarding projects that have hopefully positively impacted their viewers and audiences.
I also have to give a lot of the credit to my father. He engrained in my brain since I was born that I could achieve everything and anything I wanted in life. I took his words quite literally and the rest is history.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My career has taken me into many different industries as a creative. I have been lucky to have some of my favorite opportunities in aerospace, fashion, health and wellness and tv/film. Currently, my time is mostly between media management on a Youtube show called Spicy Fruit and directing marketing at Modern Medical OC.
Spicy Fruit, hosted by Roi Guava and Alex Wassabi, has been such an incredible journey thus far. Every day is different. Some days are all filming, other days I’m going straight into strategizing and analytics and other days are producing, meetings/prep. It is difficult to explain what the day in the life consists of, but I am just so lucky to be a part of such an incredible team of individuals who bring so much creativity and care to the table.
Modern Medical OC is a med spa in Orange County, California. Founded by my late father (dermatologist), we now have the original team back on board which motivated me to go back and be a part of the team. I love the idea of being a part of his legacy and as the business grows, the potential for us is looking so bright.
My passion for media marketing and content creation has been such a highlight of my life. It’s taken me here and I could not be happier.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Kindness, dedication and resourcefulness. Be kind to everyone, introduce yourself to everyone and be open to people and their stories. It is a waste to lose out on what could be the best friendships in your life. Those friendships can also turn into business partnerships or opportunities. But what matters the most is building a great circle of likeminded, motivated, kind people around you. There are a lot of people who are not so kind in this world; we have the choice to not be one of them.
Be dedicated and do not ever sell yourself short. If you say you’re going to do something, do it and exceed your expectations for yourself. Don’t do anything halfway.
Be resourceful. If you get asked to do something, say yes and then figure it out. We are never given opportunities that we cannot achieve. There is always a way to figure things out if you do not know. Knowledge sits at our fingertips everyday through the internet or through books.
To improve on these skills, I heavily advise to take every opportunity that comes your way. The best way to practice by being in the field. No book or tutorial could give you practice like experience.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I personally spend time alone or with people I love. That may not work for everyone, but I like to regroup on my own and think about everything I am grateful for. Talk things out with people you love or talk to a therapist if that option is available to you. It is so healthy to get our emotions out.
