We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jacqueline Brown. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jacqueline below.
Jacqueline , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Overcoming imposter syndrome with Om Jackie Om was a journey that required self-awareness, self-compassion, and a deep commitment to personal growth. Here’s how I managed to conquer imposter syndrome in the context of my business:
1. Acknowledge It: The first step in overcoming imposter syndrome is recognizing it. I had to acknowledge that I was experiencing these feelings of self-doubt and insecurity.
2. Self-Reflection: I engaged in self-reflection to understand the root causes of my imposter syndrome. I realized that it often stemmed from a fear of not meeting my own high standards or the expectations of others.
3. Seeking Support: I reached out to mentors, friends, and fellow entrepreneurs for guidance and support. Sharing my feelings with others helped me gain perspective and realize that I wasn’t alone in feeling this way.
4. Celebrating Achievements: I learned to celebrate my achievements, no matter how small they seemed. Recognizing and acknowledging my successes, even the minor ones, boosted my confidence.
5. Changing Self-Talk: I actively worked on changing my self-talk. I replaced self-critical thoughts with more positive and empowering affirmations. This shift in mindset played a crucial role in building self-confidence.
6. Setting Realistic Goals: I adjusted my goals to be more realistic and achievable. By setting attainable milestones, I reduced the pressure to constantly prove myself.
7. Continuous Learning: I embraced a mindset of continuous learning and improvement. This allowed me to focus on growth and development rather than dwelling on perfection.
8. Embracing Vulnerability:I became more comfortable with vulnerability. I realized that it’s okay not to have all the answers and that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
9. Community and Support:Building a supportive community around Om Jackie Om was essential. Knowing that I had the trust and appreciation of my clients and community provided a significant boost in confidence.
10. Practicing Self-Compassion: I learned to be kinder to myself. I acknowledged that making mistakes and experiencing setbacks is a part of the entrepreneurial journey. Instead of beating myself up, I approached these experiences with self-compassion.
Overcoming imposter syndrome is an ongoing process, and I continue to work on it. It’s a journey of self-discovery, growth, and self-acceptance. With the support of a nurturing community and a commitment to personal development, I’ve been able to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship with greater confidence and authenticity.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back at my journey with Om Jackie Om, there were three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that were particularly impactful in shaping the path of my business. Here they are, along with advice for those early in their entrepreneurial journey:
1. Resilience:
– Why It Matters: Resilience is crucial in the entrepreneurial world, as you’ll face numerous challenges and setbacks. It’s the ability to bounce back, learn from failures, and keep moving forward.
– Advice: To develop resilience, embrace a growth mindset. View obstacles as opportunities for growth rather than insurmountable hurdles. Surround yourself with a supportive network of mentors, fellow entrepreneurs, and friends who can offer guidance and encouragement.
2. Adaptability:
– Why It Matters: The business landscape is dynamic, and adaptability is essential for responding to changing circumstances and customer needs.
– Advice: Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies. Be open to trying new strategies and approaches. Continuously seek feedback from customers and be willing to adjust your offerings based on their preferences and feedback.
3. Empathy and Customer-Centric Focus:
– Why It Matters:Understanding and empathizing with your customers’ needs and desires is key to delivering valuable services and building strong, long-lasting relationships.
– Advice:Make a concerted effort to listen to your customers and consider their feedback. Conduct surveys, focus groups, or one-on-one conversations to gain insights. Tailor your offerings to address their pain points and enhance their experiences.
My advice to those early in their entrepreneurial journey is to prioritize these qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge:
– Continuous Learning: Stay curious and committed to lifelong learning. The business landscape is ever-evolving, and staying informed about trends and best practices is vital.
– Network Building:Cultivate a network of mentors, advisors, and fellow entrepreneurs. These connections can offer guidance, support, and valuable insights.
– Resourcefulness: Be resourceful in seeking solutions to challenges. It’s not always about having all the answers but knowing how to find them.
– Mindfulness and Self-Care: As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to become consumed by work. Prioritize self-care, mindfulness, and work-life balance to maintain your physical and mental well-being.
– Flexibility: Be open to change and adaptable in your strategies. The ability to pivot when necessary can be a significant asset in the face of unexpected challenges.
– Resilience: Accept that failures and setbacks are part of the entrepreneurial journey. Develop the resilience to persevere and learn from these experiences.
– Customer-Centric Focus: Keep your customers at the center of your business. Their needs and satisfaction are your primary drivers for success.
Remember that the entrepreneurial journey is a learning process, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Embrace the challenges and celebrate the successes along the way, and you’ll continue to grow and evolve as an entrepreneur.
