We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jacqueline Harris. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jacqueline below.
Jacqueline, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
When I was about 12 years old, my mom told me “do your very best at whatever you’re going to do”. I then went on to apply to our summer work program. I was 14, and I had a job working the janitors to clean the entire school over the summer. Everyday I came in on time, I listened, and I closely followed directions. The people in my community were impressed and most importantly, my mother was proud of me. I liked the feeling that I had accomplished something meaningful. Soon after, I got promoted to another program where I was offered more responsibilities working with the elderly. Today I use that same process and have taught it to the generations after me, and it comes from the heart.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am owner of the building that houses several of my businesses, all ran by members of my family. East Ave Market and Gallery is our special addition to not only our businesses, but the community. We host monthly art events every year and receive support from other local businesses. We are proud to be a part of the Akron Black Artist Guild. I personally hope to expand our creative journey to individuals with mental disabilities.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Patience, humility, and empathy were the qualities most impactful to me. I am a dedicated Christian so I strive to live my life based on Bible principles.
I always say take your time and stay calm! Never forget the power of prayer and give anything you do your best.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
The aftermath of the recent pandemic. I find to difficult maintain my balance spiritually while also protecting my family.
