We recently connected with Jacquelyn Berney and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacquelyn, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I developed my work ethic from a combination of necessity and personal drive. Growing up with very little money meant facing many challenges, moving frequently, going without and sometimes worrying about basic needs like food and utilities. This fueled my determination to work hard. Also, I’ve always been an achiever with very high standards. Even when resources were scarce, I’ve always valued doing things well. This mindset drives everything I do, and if I’m going to do something, I’m going to give it my best.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As President of VI Marketing and Branding, I get to bring big ideas to life. Not just in marketing, but in leadership and company culture. When I stepped into this role, my focus was on executing our CEO’s vision while driving growth and innovation. That effort led to a 25% increase in income and doubling our net profit.
But what truly excites me isn’t just the numbers. It’s helping to create a place where people love to work and fostering a culture that values growth. Even now, if someone doesn’t love VI, I encourage them to go elsewhere. Life it too short to not like your job.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One of the most important skills you can develop is listening. It’s the key to truly understanding people. Whether you’re leading a team, working with clients or navigating your career, listening helps you build stronger connections and make better decisions. Another crucial mindset is focus and impact. You can’t do everything, so put your energy where it will make the biggest difference. Be intentional about where you invest your time and skills. And finally, standing out matters. Don’t just do what’s expected—do the job you want. Too many young professionals think that simply doing their job is enough, but if you want more, you have to give more. Take initiative, push beyond what’s comfortable and make yourself impossible to ignore.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
A book that’s shaped my approach to leadership and success is 10x Is Easier Than 2x: How World-Class Entrepreneurs Achieve More by Doing Less. What stood out to me was the idea that achieving extraordinary results requires thinking and acting on a level that most people wouldn’t dare to. One of the most impactful insights was the notion that success isn’t just about working harder, but about expanding your vision and taking bold, consistent action. It challenged me to go beyond what I thought was possible and raised my standard for what success really looks like.
