We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jacquelyn Clark a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jacquelyn, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
My purpose is an ever-evolving one, as I discover who I am and what this life means to me. My choice to further my education and become a journalist (as my now four-year old takes on Pre-School) is still apart of my plan. I took a break to have a fun ‘Busy-Jackie’ kind of Summer on set doubling full-time for an A-list actress right up to the strike. In this time I witnessed the fall of the mask on May 12th 2023 and worked during the last days before the SAG Strike officially began June 30th 2023. I want to mention I’m writing this answer in the breaths between getting home from working ATL’s fashion trade show and before school begins back, and Malibu gets home from the park with her dad after her first day of Pre-K.. I believe my purpose is wrapped up into those two, the family I created, and also so much more that I’m willing to do. I plan to let God aim me in the direction of fulfilling his purpose in my lifetime while I continue to study and passionately work in the media field as an environmental journalist to fulfill my inner most calling to heal the planet by being a voice for the voiceless. May God allow my work to speak for him and through him, I dedicated my first stories to him and the church in which I give thanks and respect to. I dedicate my purpose and my dream to God, that’s the best way to find it if you ask me! -JC
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Bzzzz… did you hear that? It’s the Barbie Buzz and she is everywhere. The Barbie movie didn’t just happen to me it happened for me, I feel in my Barbie-Core that I manifested this BarbieMania movement. Everyone who’s anyone I’ve ever met knows while I’m a Barbie lover I more so am Barbie-like. Most don’t fully look to see what it is I love about Barbie and what about her I choose to embody as it’s more than skin deep to me. Barbie is a mindset of confidence to do anything you truly want, but unlike Barbie I have to focus on what that really is to make my own brand! In my opinion, Mattel did well in their rebrand to make Barbie more inclusive but I believe with my ideas I could elevate the brand to a whole new level.. just change a couple letters it will read Jackie. My goal of working with Mattel is still very real.. I believe it is written in the super-stars with rhinestones for eyes, sparkling like none of the others! I have been backing Barbie as my personal brand @goldendreambarbie on Instagram since 2015 after rediscovering the Barbie within after dressing up as the best version of myself for opposite personality day for psychology class; aka the Barbie Way. I couldn’t be more proud of myself for sticking to what I’ve always loved even when it wasn’t the most popular thing to do, or for persevering even when I didn’t even believe it was who I really was. Barbie taught me that believing in the best version of yourself and doing what you love will always be cool and there’s no such thing as being too much! I want to show others being yourself is the most inspiring thing you can do, and that’s what inspires others to be themselves too.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Experience.
Truth.
Love.
Focus on those three values in life as you go about whatever it is you feel passionate for and you will find success; GO! Give it your all.
All in the name of God, all God given. My advice is always give thanks and in addition ask for your blessings so God can give them to you!
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
After some thought on how to craft this response I wanted to recognize I have overcome things I said I would never do, and been extremely successful doing them. Focusing my dream on God abled me to take accountability to end cycles this year by looking to God continuously to help me grow individually, as a mom, partner, friend, and as a sister and daughter. As a woman I am so many things, capable of uncommon accomplishments, with the power to make change. I know I am strong and I can accomplish anything I put my mind to and God is blessing me with the tools I need to create my dream life. I ask God keep my family protected and safe along my journey and he continues to prepare me. With each small step towards Gods’ version of the good life he has specially granted to give me I am extremely grateful. In the past year my acting career aspirations became an every-day reality and I will write it again- I will be forever grateful for this past Summers’ opportunity and for all the moments that fell short of it, and all the ones that matter even more than the surface level stuff, the “glitz and glam” of it all. I look forward to being able to share more detail about my experience in the future. Most noteworthy on my journey of Faith over the past 12 months is returning back to church. I enjoyed GSU’s Catholic service on campus each week and found myself a block from campus attending mass at the Catholic Shrine Atlanta while looking for a story on the unhoused there as well as returning back to my hometown church with my family. I know there’s more to come on this path because I have more to offer but I’m happy to say I did it. I made it here!
