Hi Jade, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.

I believe everything happens for a reason— even the opportunities that are presented to us. I would rather live with the idea of trying and it not working out than the idea of not trying at all and having a lifetime of regret. I think the moment you give up your dream to pursue something more achievable or to fit societal norms is the moment you fail. Take all the risks and embrace the challenges and different pathways life will take you on— welcome it with open arms. You never know what tomorrow holds for you, and I think that develops my ability to take risks.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Currently, I’m working on a few projects— bringing to life my upcoming film that touches on topics of mental health and grief. I’m working on building my acting career and simultaneously working on becoming a high school social worker. While going to school and juggling the opportunities that are presented to me in the near future, I’d like to run a nonprofit that helps the community and brings people together. I’d like to make a difference in honor of my aunt Jacquelyne, who passed recently. She is the reason I choose to take risks and follow through with my dreams— she didn’t quit when it got hard, and neither will I.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I truly believe the support system I have made an impact on who I am today and who I envision in the future. My dad is my best friend, and without him, I don’t know where I’d be. He has always provided for me and then some. He’s engraved the thought of achieving whatever I wanted if I put my mind to it. Him being my dad has been the biggest blessing, and knowing I have him on my side as my number 1 fan is what keeps me going. If you’re not as blessed to have been dealt the cards of just having someone like that, change your environment, lifestyle, whatever it is that is preventing you from having a solid support system. Having someone that pushes you to be in the best version of yourself is what I recommend to anyone right now in their journey of becoming who they want to become. Along with having a good support system I would recommend to always say yes to the opportunities that are presented. Throughout my career, I’ve been presented with opportunities that were no-pay jobs, and by taking those jobs, I was able to build connections and build my resume as well as be able to create some great memories on set. With that being said, say yes to everything because you never know what door that’ll open for you. My last piece of advice is to be gentle on yourself. Everyone has their own path and own timeframe. Just take a deep breath and remember where you are is right where you need to be.
