Meet Jae Jung

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jae Jung. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jae, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I found my purpose in realizing that everything around us is a social construct shaped by those with power and platforms. Fashion is no exception and like many systems, it is controlled from the top down. This awareness drives me to create a world where marginalized voices, including my own, are free to express themselves on their own terms.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I was born in Seoul, raised in the U.S., and studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology before starting my career with an internship at Thom Browne. Along the way I took on freelance gigs with brands like Theory and Ralph Lauren, eventually landing a role at The North Face, where I had the chance to design and collaborate with global names such as Gucci, Undercover, Skims, Comme des Garçons, and others. In 2017, I founded DRESS OF OUR RACE, abbreviated as DOOR, as a creative experiment to push the limits of both my technical skills and artistic vision. When my first collection was picked up by the New York boutique C’H’C’M’, I saw the potential to share a message through clothing. I followed it up with a second collection, which was acquired by the Los Angeles luxury retailer Just One Eye. After years of moving between cities, I moved back to LA in 2024, started my own family, assembled a team, and am now focused on debuting my third collection and expanding the brand’s impact.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Grit, self belief and trust in others.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Stepping into a leadership role taught me the importance of giving my team space to grow. It requires complete trust and extending the benefit of the doubt, even when things don’t go according to plan, because everyone is always doing their absolute best at all times.
