We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jaeda Allen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jaeda below.
Jaeda, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Yesss, I love this question. I used to just feel like self-care just meant taking a bath, getting your nails done, doing your hair and it is. But it’s so much deeper than that! The things i focus on for daily self-care are daily journal prompts, meditation, exercise/yoga and prayer. These are my favorite because they keep me grounded, clear and aware of my internal self. I feel like a lot of us have our biggest issues because we aren’t fully aware of ourselves and what we’re dealing with internally, which causes a lot of anxiety and stress to our nervous system. The power of stillness and movement is so powerful for your mental health and inner healing/peace.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a holistic healing artist, vibe curator and licensed massage therapist. I define the title Holistic Healing Artist as someone who heals through different aspects of art. From painting, henna design, massage therapy, energy work, food, herbal medicine, etc. I got into these things and built a very strong passion for them at a very young age. My mother always told me that the earth has a cure for everything, so I really lived off of that and decided to just infuse those practices into my business.
I’ve wanted to do massage therapy since I was 13 years old. It started off as something I wanted to do to be able to help my mother with her chronic back pain but it turned into me learning how deeply healing through massage is an art as well. I graduated from Gwinnett College in 2019. Massage school taught me so much about not only bodywork but energy healing, the chakras, eastern medicine and so much on how we are able to heal ourselves through holistic practices.
Art itself, painting/henna/drawing etc., has been a DEEP love of mine for as long as I could remember. For me, it’s a beautiful way of expression, release and playfulness of the mind. I used to think people would see my love for art as silly or something that was for kids and nothing that I could live off of but with following my inner knowing and sticking to my passions, its gotten me into a lot of really cool spaces. Henna alone has gotten me into spaces like Dreamville Fest, Packapalooza, Duke University and many other spaces that I’d never imagine. Moral of the story, stick to your passion kids haha.
I started being booked as a sip and paint instructor back around 2017 and I loved it but what I didn’t like was how some people would doubt themselves, thinking they weren’t good at painting or creative enough. It took away from their freedom of expression and enjoyment of the experience, which is really what pushed me into curating my own events and my own vibe. I wanted to start curating spaces where people could not only feel free to express themselves artistically but also, free to express themselves as their true inner self. Along with meeting other like-minded, spiritual, expansive, multidimensional beings like themselves. So I created a series of events titled Paint & Chill. Each event had a different theme/dress code from 90s,70s, winter, reggae, etc and it just became a cool cultural vibe. People were able to freely paint whatever they wanted, get creative with their outfits, shop with local vendors, see local artists perform and connect with like-minded individuals in a safe accepting space for all, but mainly people in the BIPOC community.
Since then I’ve expanded to curating festivals, private parties, and retreats are soon to be the newest addition of all. I’m actually working on a festival called SweaterFest, a Black Creative Experience for All right now. Collaborating with a couple of other brands like Stay Yellow and the HXPPYCOOKIEWORLD to bring to the community a dope space to honor, showcase and support BIPOC creatives in the area. The event is 11/18/23 and tickets are being sold on Eventbrite so.. get yours! The biggest thing that lights me up is curating experiences that our community is able to indulge in luxury, cultural practices, good vibes and true deep spiritual and inner child healing through the arts and natural practices. That’s really what feeds my soul and spirit.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the three things that were most impactful were – trusting my intuition and discernment, being passionate in what I love and being consistent in continuing to move forward no matter what adversities. These things were really anchors in my growth as a business owner and spiritual creative.
My advice for others would be really, just keep going. Be willing to try and make space for improvement. It’s better to do than to not do anything at all. Consistency is key to everything and you can’t lose if you’re showing up. When it comes to intuition and discernment, I definitely recommend meditation. Sitting in stillness with yourself is really a game changer. You are your biggest teacher. You can download Insight Timer on your phone for access to thousands of meditations from 3 minutes to 90 minutes. It’ll change your life, I promise.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes! I’m always looking for new amazing creatives to collaborate with. Photographers, healers, nail techs, aestheticians, energy workers, artists, the list goes on! I’m looking to create with them and also barter creative gifts with them as well! Bartering is one of my favorite forms of currency. I feel like we all have gifts to give and why not exchange our gifts as valuable sources of payment to each other?
