We recently connected with Jaejoon Ha and have shared our conversation below.
JAEJOON, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I always wanted to participate in many competitions, and when the competition ended and the winner was announced, I always had low confidence and self-esteem. I was always depressed. But, I had to keep upgrading my work. To build my confidence and self-esteem, I went out to the streets and walked around New York City. I tried to overcome myself by walking every day and taking pictures with people in the city.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is JAEJOON HA. I’m from South Korean and working based in New York City. I’ve been worked about street photography while understanding many place in the world. I got inspired by many people in the city. The first time I started taking pictures was when I got married and went on a honeymoon to the Czech Republic and Austria for about a month. I studied on my own to take wedding photos just the two of us without any knowledge, but now I am walking around the streets with a camera. I went on a honeymoon, got married in Seoul, finished my life in Korea, and moved to North America. I never thought I would start photography there. I started to understand life in America in New York when I was around 29 years old. My life and understanding of photography are still lacking, there are many things to learn on the road, and I need to encounter more diverse paths. On the streets, I learn and acquire everything

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
If I look at myself as a current photographer, knowledge, qualifications, and skills are all important. However, I think that the sincerity and continuity to continue doing what I love, and the creativity to express something new at any time are the most important. I always think and think about new and diverse expressions.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
Even at this moment, I am always thinking about overcoming and improving. Even at this moment, my family and my wife are always giving me great help. When I first started taking pictures and went out into the streets, I still feel nervous when I think about the unfamiliar moments and the times I had to adapt.
