Meet Jahlisa Williams

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jahlisa Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jahlisa, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience is deeply rooted in my life experiences, shaped by the strong influences of my mother and my upbringing in Brooklyn, NY.

My mother was a single mom raising three kids in the 90s and early 2000s. I watched her do the best she could, making sure my sister, brother, and I had the essentials. It wasn’t always the best childhood, but she did the best she could with what she knew.

Growing up in the dynamic and diverse environment of Brooklyn, often described as a concrete jungle, has equipped me with valuable survival instincts. Negotiating the challenges of city life has honed my ability to bounce back from various situations. These experiences have not only contributed to my strength but have also played a significant role in my success in business.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
We are a private mobile bartending and liquor catering company. Since our debut in 2018, we have consistently maintained 5-Star Ratings on both Google & Yelp. We focus on excellence as we travel to private residences, public venues, and corporate offices. We are determined to bring luxury and style to all of your special events.

I pride myself on creating a lasting experience for all of my clients by bringing upscale, East Coast flavor to Sin City. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, with my roots now planted in Las Vegas, I am the founder and CEO of MixxieMixologist™, an exclusive bartending service catering to the needs of Las Vegans.

I have a decade in the hospitality industry, and experience with bartending a variety of events including weddings, bachelor/bachelorette parties, holiday events, sports and entertainment stadiums, and nightlife events across several states,

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe that three qualities and skills have profoundly influenced my journey: self-discipline, consistency, and self-belief. While these may sound easier said than done, they are the cornerstone of my current life situation.

For any entrepreneur in the early stages, my advice revolves around these three qualities. Self-discipline is crucial when building a business, as it requires changing habits and, most importantly, elevating oneself to the person or business professional one aspires to become. This extends to practicing discipline in choosing the company you keep.

Consistency is straightforward—putting in the work consistently is essential to seeing results, regardless of how long it takes.

Last but not least, self-belief is indispensable. You cannot make it in life if you don’t believe in yourself and your dreams. You must be willing to take that leap, whether you are in fear or not. Bet on yourself because you are the only person who can see your vision and take the necessary steps to bring it to fruition.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My mother was a bartender for twenty years. She paid for me to attend bartending school while I was in college studying Criminal Justice. I needed the money for essentials, and she knew this was a way for me to support myself during college, not knowing it would shape my life path. This decision impacted my life because, even though I have a BA degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology, I fell in love and developed a passion for the hospitality industry, which I have turned into a career and business. Thank you, Mommy!
