Meet Kreez Johnson

We were lucky to catch up with Kreez Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kreez , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Growing up I did have a lot of confidence, but it was a point where I did lose it. It was a point I felt like every room I walked in people are staring, Laughing. My social anxiety was throught the roof for years and till this day I still don’t know why I just realized for what I want to do in life I had to get back to my old self by any means necessary. I first noticed my confidence coming back the more I put myself in uncomfortable positions and the more I made music. Eventually I realized my self worth and acted upon it becoming less accessible, & Perfecting my craft in making songs and producing Until I just woke up one day and knew I was the It factor.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am Kreez & I make music and I produce. I’ve produced for a lot of big artists everytime you hear the tag “ Damn Kreez This Beat Hi Tech “ That is me. My music and beats all reflect on how I felt at the moment I love to express myself through my art. What’s most special about me and my music is that it comes from a place nobody can go which is my heart. The originality really shows within what I do. I’m not into following trends I like what I like & that is that. I believe in being yourself but doing it in the flyest way possible.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
If I can name only three ? The first one would be Self discipline, Without that who knows how much I would’ve procrastinated more than I already have. I believe everybody should master self discipline it avoids a lot of bone head mistakes and makes it easier to enhance in life wether its physically, mentally, or emotionally. The second would be the music business. My dad always told me to read up on the business side of it when I first started but I thought he was just being a dad trying to include his input whenever he had the chance. I realized it was for a reason and a blessing because I wasn’t totally confused when I really decided to dive in it realizing it was just as important as my music. You never want somebody to swindle you out of your worth it’s discouraging. You have to have your paper work right. Lastly, Music Theory, although i’m still in the learning process learning how to read and write music is the best thing a musician can do to develop their craft 10x over, It just helps.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
In my opinion you never want to put yourself in a box. Yes brushing up our strengths from time to time and going back to what’s familiar is okay but it’s also good to work on what you lack. I believe you’re only as strong as your weakest quality. It was a time I only worked on my bars while rapping, that’s it just my bars not my delivery, Breathe control, Timing nothing. It was time to start recording in studios and making real music and I was stuck with only raps to different old rap beats I enjoyed. I didn’t have any real material and if I did record the raps none of my songs would have depth or make sense. I realized I had plenty to work on other than having more bars than the next. It wouldn’t matter if I couldn’t make a hit so I worked on it. I worked on everything I was weak at and found myself venturing into new things, new style of music. The best thing I ever could have did was work on my weaker qualities because it showed me a glimpse of my full potential and now I’m not stopping until I reach just that and then some.
