We were lucky to catch up with Jahny Wallz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jahny , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I moved a lot as a kid and grew up way too quick. My mother raised five boys on her own and taught us to be good men but society enticed us to be rebellious. Even though I hit a few bumps in the road growing up, I found a good route in education and music to help me in the situation I was in. It was important for me to learn my Mexican-American history and to be able to properly express my feelings. At around sixteen I left the house and started preparing to go off to college. I was also starting to play drums and guitar at the same time. I was slowly realizing that music would intrigue me very much and it made me feel happy. It took me a while to choose a major at the University but I chose recording and music industry. I felt inspired by the art of music and the work from music artists of the past.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a music producer who records his own music from home. In essence, it’s the dream I’ve always had. I also do corporate web conferencing support part time and have a love for technology. I enjoy being able to grow as an artist and as professional. lastly, it is great to be able to teach and mentor others in music, AV, and recording.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I am very grateful that I have stayed up to date with computer/software technology. This has allowed me to diversify my approach as an artist/producer and transition into corporate AV / broadcasting.
Developing effective communication skills has also been a game changer. I learned this skill with my experience in talent buying and organizing festivals/concerts. I had to be very precise with my approach calling big name talent agents as well as when running production for large events and communicating with a lot of different folks.
Lastly, not being afraid to troubleshoot is one of the most valuable skills I am glad to have developed. I doubted my decision to get an education for a long time as I was stuck with a large debt. I later realized that it has been a pivotal part of my journey. I fee like everyone should get some sort of degree or certification and or do a lot of reading . After you do that then the next step is to get out there and do it. I spent a good 7 years in the thick of Los Angeles going thru ups and downs, at every major venue, living in bunch of different areas, and living as a lonely artist.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am looking to collaborate with other businesses or artists in music composition and with virtual webcasting support. Wether it’s music for film or promo video or if someone needs AV support for their video podcast I can help. I can also help mentor other artists or aspiring producers.
