Meet JAHQWALE Wallace

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful JAHQWALE Wallace a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

JAHQWALE , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I struggled for many years with low self-confidence, constantly comparing myself to other stylists and feeling like I wasn’t enough. But my relationship with God completely shifted my perspective. He showed me that the gift and skill I have were given by Him, and what I bring to my clients is far greater than just talent. When I embraced that my purpose in this field is not only to style hair but also to love people and speak life into them, my confidence grew. Now, my self-worth is rooted in God’s purpose for me—not in people’s opinions

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a Loctician and Braider based in the metro Atlanta area. My passion is enhancing the natural beauty of my clients through hair care and creative styling. For me, it’s more than just a job — it’s a calling. I love people, and I cherish the moments God gives me to speak life, truth, and encouragement while I work. Every appointment is an opportunity not just to style hair, but to uplift and remind my clients of their worth, even in a world where they may often feel overlooked.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back over my journey, I used to say I made a lot of mistakes—but in reality, everything I endured has taught me perseverance. I’ve learned how to keep my faith when opportunities I thought were good turned out not to be, realizing that what looked like a closed door was actually God’s protection.

Don’t rush the process. Growth, clients, and opportunities come at the right time—not before, not after.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

The Bible plays a major role in my life and in the decisions I make—who I listen to and what else I allow into my spirit. One book that really confirmed this for me is Before I Climb Any Higher by Jonathan McReynolds. It reminded me not to pursue success in my own way or by the world’s standards, but to trust God’s process. It also encouraged me to keep my focus on my “why”—living for God’s purpose—rather than being distracted by money or fame.
